Driving is not fun - lots of one-ways, traffic, and parking meters. Rental properties and traffic are heavily controlled by KU. Nice scenery and shopping options (if a bit on the expensive side).
Lawrence used to be a nice place where laws were upheld and citizens were held accountable for their actions.
Safety has gone downhill. Laws, ordinances and judgements are not upheld in this city. Everything is expensive, specifically because of the tax structures in this town.
It used to be the kind of place you could walk around anywhere at any time and feel safe. Not anymore.
People can basically do most anything they want and get away with it in this town.
It’s disappointing, but I know it’s not just here.

Safety is going downhill being between Topeka and Kansas City, but overall a safe place to be. There are many schools and sites to see overall and the educational history is great
It's been great ever since I got here. The fact that they have a crunch here is amazing and I love that gym!
I have lived in Lawrence for my entire life. It is a beautiful and quirky town. I deeply enjoy the quaint walks I take with my family and friends downtown. And our wholesome days by the river. I find myself particularly drawn to the history of Lawrence, as I formed a fascination with the town at an early age when I learned about Bleeding Kansas and the burning of the Free State Hotel, or as it is now known, the Eldridge Hotel. I would go on to spend my 16th birthday as a guest at the hotel, in which I enjoyed greatly.
Growing up it was really nice and safe place to live. I had a great childhood here and I have many fond memories of me playing at the parks, the pool, and exploring the town with my friends. Its still an exciting place to live with many restaurants to dine at, festivals and shows to attend to, nature to enjoy, and places to shop, however over the last few years it has gotten more dangerous to live here. But I can still look beyond the dangers and see the town I love and grew up in.
Lawrence is the perfect sized town to fill all of your daily needs and the opportunity to interact with a diverse community. There are opportunities to entertain nearly everyone from shopping, to nightlife, to nature walks, and more. Lawrence is cozy but can sometimes feel too distant from the big city which make the 45 minute drive to Kansas City a perfect commute to fill all your bigger city needs!
The only reason Lawrence gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because it's marginally better than smaller surrounding towns. Beyond having a few fun things to do around town, there are no benefits to living here, especially as a Millennial or Gen Z. There are very few jobs available, even fewer that pay a living wage, and the cost of living is high. As this issue has worsened over the past decade, Lawrence has developed a major problem with drugs, crime, and homelessness. While everyone loves to complain about these problems, nobody is willing to take responsibility or do anything about it. The justice system is a joke, allowing violent criminals to walk free. Just look up Shane S. Allen. Everybody loves to virtue signal how liberal and supportive of marginalized groups they are, until one of their friends is called out for racism/homophobia/classism/DV/SA/etc. Being a bad person is only a problem if you're not in with the "cool crowd", aka artsy fake liberals with rich parents.
I grew up in Lawrence. Born and raised. I like that Lawrence is very homey and a small town where people get to know each other or already know each other. I wish to see activities and more things to do in Lawerence.
I like the restaurants in this town. It is a lively place to live at. There are money activities you can do here.
Lawrence is a college town. During the summers when most of the college kids are not there, it's great. There are a lot of stores and local businesses. There are also a lot of places to eat. When the college kids are in town, it is not as great. The traffic gets pretty bad during the school year. Lawrence is an expensive place to live.
I have greatly enjoyed being in Lawrence since I moved here in 2020, it has been eye opening and very beneficial for my mental health. Yes, every town has a few negative people, but Lawrence, Kansas is filled with kind, exciting people who are overjoyed to go to KU, and those that grew up here are always talking about another thing that they have recently discovered. I’ve loved being here for the people and the sights available, as well as the community that you feel while you walk home at night. I love that I don’t have to feel scared when walking home, and that I can trust locals to help if I’m ever injured or lost.
It is nice. I am a college student and it feels like I am home, despite being away from my parents. I enjoy being here and I am considering staying here even after graduation. I am a full-time student and work a full-time job. It is a lot to juggle, but I am maintaining good grades.
I grew up very close to Lawrence all through my childhood and eventually moved here when I was a senior in school. I attended the University of Kansas for my undergrad years and graduated back in 2020. The overall vibe of this town has shifted within the past few years to more of a small town vibe. Many identify with it, some do not. I am excited to pursue a new opportunity in a bigger city. Anyone looking for a safe and fun town to attend college in or a soon to be retiree, I would recommend Lawrence, Kansas.
Festive college town, great places to eat and various family friendly activities available .it home of the Jayhawks.
I think this town has a great family environment. It also has a lot for college and high school students to do.
Lawrence is a great location when you like to travel and it's not too big or too small to grow your family here. There are many things to do to stay busy.
