Curse of the Werewolf (Book and Record)

Curse of the Werewolf is a comic book and record set produced by Power Records and released in 1974. It features the Marvel Comics character Jack Russell, colloquially referred to as "Werewolf by Night". The book partially reprints material originally featured in Marvel Spotlight, Volume 1 #2 and Werewolf by Night, Volume 1 #15. The first half of the story was written by Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, and his then-wife Jean Thomas. The second half of the story was written by Marv Wolfman. The comic was illustrated by Mike Ploog and inked by Ploog and Frank Chiaramonte. It was lettered by John Costanza. The cover is a reproduction of Neal Adams cover to Marvel Spotlight, Volume 1 #2.

  • The masthead of this book cover is different from the one featured on the cover to Marvel Spotlight, Volume 1 #2. The "Marvel Spotlight" logo is absent and the stylized "Werewolf" logo has been changed to read "Curse of the Werewolf.
  • The book opens with the poem, "Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms, and the moon is full and bright". It is credited as an old folk poem, but in truth, it originated with the 1941 Universal Pictures film The Wolf Man The Wolf Man. It was written by screenwriter Curt Siodmak.
