The Catherine Wheel is a 17th century country pub in the historic conservation village of Marshfield. It’s just eight miles north of the Roman city of Bath (a World Heritage site) and 13 miles from the port of Bristol, named European Green Capital 2015.

Marshfield stands close to where three county borders meet at Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset. This is at the southern gateway to the rolling Cotswold hills which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our first visit and it won’t be our last! We booked a table for four, it was exceptionally good, all of us thoroughly enjoyed it, the staff were friendly and attentive. The special fish pie was a delight our friends said, the portions were really good and everything freshly cooked, then you just have to have a dessert :) would definitely recommend

We had Sunday lunch and were impressed by the amount of food provided. Roast beef, with all the trimmings and extra gravy, and a vegan and gluten-free nut bake with, as extra, gluten free Yorksire pudding! ( a first for me in a pub). Good period atmosphere in the panelled dining room at the front which was quiet. The back room was also full, and noisier. Serving staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money at 2 courses for £21.50.

In from the States via London and staying at a lovely Inn nearby. Wanted a more authentic local feel so chose The Catherine Wheel for dinner. Total local spot; excellent food and great service. We even got a ride back to our Inn from a staff member when we asked if there were any taxis available (we gave her the equivalent taxi fare).

Would have been 5 stars but serving our food took so long even though we delivered our part of the deal by turning up as required on time and we even provided the menu requests up front for all 6 of us even though 4 of our party were 15 mins late arriving. I think we turned up at 1.15pm and eventually got our meals by 2.45 pm. No apologies either for the late serving of food. We still left a service charge but really should not have done. Took pity on the few serving waiters you had I suppose. Not good. You need more staff either in the kitchen or in the dining room or both. 2 children were part of our party too but they also had to be very patient waiting to eat.

It was very busy when we arrived as a wake was overrunning quite substantially. Not the fault of the landlords but it did make it quite noisy. However, the food was very good and was excellent value.

This is a great pub, offering excellent food at really good prices, with friendly staff and a good ambience. We only had one main course, which was all we needed, but the starters and the puddings looked worth exploring next time. And the building is fascinating, and surrounded by other buildings that are equally wonderful.

Another lovely meal in this old pub. The charming traditional interior, with interesting original features is a comfortable and relaxing place to spend an evening. The meal was delicious and copious, the staff were attentive and welcoming; we'll be back and recommend.

Third time we have visited the Catherine Wheel, and still as good as the first! Lovely pub and staff. The food and value is fantastic! Shall be back for another visit for sure!!!

I quietly said last time we visited food was luke warm so was hoping for nice hot food My pie was warm at best same with veg Chips for the two steaks were delivered but no steak however when it came it was lovely Next table sent their veg back and sauce as it was sitting getting colder waiting for mains Such a shame we love the menu love the pub but get the service right and serve hot food please

I come here every year for a post race roast/feast. This was our 6th year. The food and portion size is excellent. A good range of beers. Friendly staff. I'll be back again next year!

The table we were given was practically on the bar. Where staff were leaning and talking together during the 90 minutes we were there. Bottle’s were thrown into bottle bin constantly the noise was dreadful. My mother (90) was shocked by the racket we had to endure. We chose roast pork/chicken. The portions although would suit many, but certainly not us. When I apologised to waiter for not barely any vegetables. He said why didn’t we have the child portion. I would say that if we read on menu “small roast “ we absolutely would make that choice. Perhaps going forward your staff should address the wording on the menu. Or at least advise diners there is an option.

Sea bass and lasagne lovely steak ok Lovely food overall but chips and the gravy in jug for steak pie ( which was delicious)were luke warm Not the pubs fault but in the restaurant was a small dog with a constant high pitched bark Drove us mad Service wasn’t great possibly new girl The pub however is great in that it is a good pub and a drinking pub good balance We will be back

Lovely comfortable dining area with a good atmosphere. Friendly unobtrusive service. Lovely varied menu serving very good quality food. We were a party of three and had beef stew, harissa cod casserole and mushroom stroganoff followed by apple crumble/custard, brownie/ice cream, ginger & lime cheesecake/ice cream. All top quality. Would definitely recommend!

Was very quiet. Good home cooked food, although too much! Side vegetables would have served 4 not 1, so they could save on wastage. Reasonable price for volume of food. Lovely homemade pie and curry.
