You can visit the whole museum in 1-2 hours, so you don't get overfed with art. - VeryPickySuburbanMomSouthborough, MA20 contributionsWe visited on Sunday for the Klimt Exhibit without a reservation and had a very pleasant experience. We waited in a relatively short line outside. Many visitors were entering the relatively small foyer: those with museum reservations, walk-ins like us and others there to dine at the Cafe. There were security people and other staff to guide the process smoothly. Unlike some of the recent reviewers, everyone we encountered was polite and helpful. We went thru a metal detector and had our bags checked but appreciated the security in this day and age. If you are a fan of Gustav Klimt and unable to go to Vienna, highly recommend the Klimt Exhibit. It was well-organized and fascinating. A security employee did ask that visitors who were finished viewing the art move on to make room for others who were waiting but she was not rude about it; there were people "just hanging out" chatting or looking at their cell phones. We spent about an hour between the Klimt Exhibit on the 3rd floor and the exhibits on the 2nd floor. Just to be able to spend some time with the golden portrait of Adele, with her incredible story, is worth the price of admission to me. - Rich BAllen, TX325 contributionsI visited the Guggenheim today. I started on floor six and worked my way down. The most positive thing I can say is that it was definitely not my cup of tea. I thought most of the displayed “pieces of art” were depressing…which I guess was the point. - Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻Los Angeles, CA8,786 contributionsAt the upper reaches of Museum Mile is this wonderful offering. Housed in the historic Felix M. Warburg mansion, it has both a permanent collection as well as specialized exhibitions.
I visited on a rainy Friday morning, as there were three current exhibits I wanted to see. The first was a replica of Frederick Kiesler's modern, innovative home library set up. Next up was a short history of Coney Island and its long-standing Jewish connection, told through photos and two carefully carved carousel horses. Lastly, several of the late Justice Ruth Baser Ginsberg's beautiful legal collars and jabots were shown, side by side with ornate tribal jewelry from all over the world.
A great spot to begin your museum day, as I did, or round it off. I liked looking at the architecture but to stay there would be expensive.
All I kept thinking of was the line from Cruel Intentions said by Sarah Michelle Gellar's character: "I'm the Marcia Brady of the Upper East Side!"

In the North the area is known as the Upper East Side and it is a very elite area of the city.
Walking along Park Avenue there are some very exclusive restaurants and cafes and also shops too.

There is a permanent collection of design examples as well as special installations.
On my recent visit, I saw a retrospective of how signage has evolved, as well as a collection chronicling noted set designer Es Devlin's creative process.
A docent-led tour of the Carnegie mansion rooms was also included in admission the day I was there. The beautiful old rooms are carefully tended to, and harken back to the gilded age of NYC.
It's a popular spot for school groups and design aficionados. This visit, I spent part of a rainy Friday afternoon and itong the latest annual winners whose works are on display.
There are three floors of illustrations, plus the rooftop bar with a special hall of fame, plus libations including craft cocktails on offer.
The society was founded in 1901 and continues to support a varied community of illustrators from all over.

Nice areas for just sitting and reading or watching the world go by. Unfortunately spoiled by the all pervasive inconsiderate dog owners, who take their pets on to lawns which are clearly marked as off limits to pets. So the areas set aside for those who would like to relax without stepping in something horrible or let their kids play on grass not soaked by plant destroying dog urine are out of luck. - FarwriterLondon, UK134 contributionsI highly recommend taking a guided tour of Park Avenue Armory if you are interested in history or architecture. This is a stunning late 19th century building which was built as the home for the 7th regiment in the 1880s. It is now in the process of being restored room by room and is also used by artists and for theatrical performances in the enormous drill hall. Tours run usually every month - I did have to book several weeks in advance to find the next available date. The $25 charge was very reasonable - it was supposed to take 75 minutes but was closer to 90, perhaps because our group asked lots of questions! But the guide, Grace, was happy to answer them all and was very pleasant and knowledgeable. We saw three rooms on the ground floor and two of the rooms on the first floor as well as the drill hall. The Veterans' Room with decoration by Tiffany and Stanford White was absolutely stunning. Most of the rooms have seating available so you can sit as you listen to the guide, and photographs are permitted.
One thing which could perhaps have been included was a bit more information about General Emmons Clark, who is represented in a huge portrait in the first room we visited. Grace had to look up who was the subject of the paintings in the room but it was only as we were leaving the room that I noticed there is actually a plaque to Emmons Clark under his portrait, thanking him for being instrumental in getting the Armory built, so I was surprised that he didn't feature more prominently. I presume the medals displayed by the plaque also belong to him.
Anyway, that is a minor nitpick - Grace was great and I really enjoyed it. I must say that the staff on the box office and the reception desk could learn something from her in how to talk to people - they were both very abrupt and surly, particularly the young man on reception who barked "TOUR?" at me as I approached the desk and exasperatedly told me that I couldn't use the bathroom until I had checked in. The email booking confirmation tells you to check in at the Mary Divver Room but there is no signage at the entrance to show you where this is - for information, it is immediately to your right when you go up the entrance steps (so you then don't have to go as far as the rude receptionist).Written March 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The organizers were kind enough to go ahead with the tour even though I was the only person on it, which made it an even more special experience for me. The guide was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed the historical context provided.
