The Legend of Zelda is getting a live-action film adaptation following the incredible success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Zelda film will be directed by Wes Ball, who also helmed the upcoming sequel Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

While speaking about Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes at WonderCon with CBR's Kevin Polowy, Ball addressed the Legend of Zelda movie he's directing. He was very careful with his words, not wanting to spill much about the project itself, though he shared how he was planning on doing something "special" with the movie. Ball couldn't confirm nor deny that casting had started for characters in the movie, suggesting he'll be able to get more into all of that after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is released.

Are Link & Zelda In Love In Breath Of The Wild And Tears Of The Kingdom?
Link and Zelda's romantic relationship is often left ambiguous in TLOZ, but TOTK and BOTW seem to imply something more between them.

"I can't really say anything," Ball said when asked about The Legend of Zelda. "I've learned in the past that anything I say gets sort of taken out of context. It's probably safer that I say nothing until we have something to say, which I'm sure will come at some point. But obviously, I'm very thrilled and happy to be a part of this thing. It's been a [lifelong] dream for me, basically... to be part of a Legend of Zelda movie. It's amazing. So, we're going to work hard and do something special."

There's No Word Yet About Possible Casting

When asked about the current status of the project, such as whether casting had started, Ball responded, "No comment. Let me finish [Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes] first... I've got to see how this movie's going to end, and then I can go look at the next big giant franchise."

While fans will have to wait to find out more details about The Legend of Zelda's feature film adaptation, they'll soon be able to catch the newest movie from Ball. Directed by Ball and written by Josh Friedman, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is heading to theaters in May. It's connected to the previous Apes movies, serving as a sequel to 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes, but it's set centuries into the future. Owen Teague stars as a young chimpanzee who teams up with a feral human (Freya Allen) in a new world dominated by ape clans.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released on May 10, 2024.
