Maggie Butler

Maggie’s first venture into the gallery world was with printmaking, exhibiting in galleries in the South East and the North across London. A number of her prints were ‘Design Centre Approved’ and distributed throughout Britain and America. She had editions published by Seen Gallery in Knightsbridge and Christies, London. She also undertook a number of painting commissions.

Later on, Maggie focused on sculpture and her 3 dimensional works have been displayed in many prestigious gardens such as RHS Wisley, The Savill Gardens (Crown Estate) and Fulham Palace.

Working primarily in clay, she makes silicone rubber moulds and casts in a variety of materials, using both metal and inert fillers such as slate, white cement, terracotta and marble. Maggie also developed a keen interest in stone carving and constructions in wood.

She uses simple line and shape to get to the essence of a theme. Her sculpture shows vulnerability and innocence of human and bird form and her larger sculptures are reflective yet at the same time extract a power. All her work has a rhythmic signature.

As well as being invited by Philip Jackson to exhibit at Chichester Cathedral, Maggie has also shown work at Guildford Cathedral. She exhibits regularly with the Surrey Sculpture Society and is a full exhibiting member of Chelsea Art Society. She exhibits work with the Society of Women Artists in the Mall Gallery London and is also a full member of both Farnham and Guildford Art Societies.

Her clientele include other artists, comedians and royalty, she has had a number of sculpture commissions and her work is in private collections in Europe, South Africa, America, Australia and the Middle East.
