Rise of the Guardians' Peter Ramsey wants to direct a sequel. The DreamWorks Animation film based on William Joyce's book came to life in 2012 with Ramsey at the helm. While the movie didn't do as well as anticipated at the box office, it soon took on a life of its own as a cult favorite.

Rise of the Guardians focuses on childhood myths such as Jack Frost, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny. In the movie, Jack Frost finds out he is a Guardian, or a spirit who is tasked with protecting childhood. The motley crew joins forces in order to thwart an evil boogeyman and discover the importance of companionship, bravery, and belief along the way. It was deemed a heartwarming story by reviewers, although its poor showing at theaters meant that the fan-favorite film never received a sequel.

Even though Peter Ramsey has since won an Oscar for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, ComicBook reports that he would be more than open to directing a sequel for Rise of the Guardians. Ramsey says that DreamWorks and Paramount haven't been particularly enthusiastic about creating a follow-up for the movie, considering the profit loss. However, Ramsey highlights that the sequel is something he "would love to do," especially since he believes that the characters "deserve another shot."

Although Ramsey does believe that Rise of the Guardians has been the most difficult professional challenge of his career due to the movie's box office showing, he remains optimistic about the experience. More specifically, Ramsey says that there are "many things [he'd] like to improve on." While he admits that seeing Rise of the Guardians flop at the box office was a difficult pill to swallow, he says that it taught him that "there's...more to you than one thing that you do." All in all, it seems Ramsey took Rise of the Guardians in stride and used the lessons learned to further his career; what's more, he's ready for round two with the characters he loves, which is something that will delight fans of the film.

While Rise of the Guardians was a studio disappointment, it's continued to entrance fan imaginations years later. Viewers remember the story fondly and have continued to keep its memory alive, whether through casual conversation or gorgeous concept art. For now, it seems like Jack Frost, Santa, and the rest of the crew won't be returning to the silver screen just yet—but with someone like Peter Ramsey on their side, there's always a possibility that a Rise of the Guardians sequel may be just around the corner.
