I have been a student at Amarillo High for a year now and I thought I would hate it a lot more than I actually do. Though the school may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, it is filled with pockets great people and opportunities. I’ve loved my teachers that I had in the past school year and their dedication to the students only made us want to pursue further knowledge.
I personally have had a wonderful experience during my 4 years at Amarillo High school. I've loved most of my teachers and I have made so many new and amazing friends. My best experiences have definitely been in choir. I've been given so much opportunity there, and I have grown so much not only as a singer, but also as a person. I would say the worst of my experience came from the newly found safety at my school. They recently built a giant metal gate surrounding the entire building. Which is great, but it keeps me and others from easily accessing the building. This would also be included in some of the changes I'd like to see in the school. We have one gate by the office that will open up if you press the button, but the administration barely keep an eye on it.
Amarillo high has great potential to be a home for all students. There are many things that this school can improve on. But I will say that academically and sports wise, this school excels. The student body has issues with bullying I feel that many teachers and administrators do not care much what goes on with students unless they are obviously breaking rules. Hopefully in the future the bullying and student behavior will improve and students will be able to be themselves. I feel that there is too many expectations among the student body and students are not taught how to be themselves. Otherwise this school is a great school and I am honored to be a third generation Sandie.
