Cisco suggests factory default after firmware upgrade. How do you re-enter 1,000 settings?

Every time there is a new FW update from Cisco, the instructions suggest to do a factory reset to enable new features and ensure it works properly.

Is it possible to import the old settings back into the new firmware or are they really asking us to go back and reconfigure the router one option at a time?

I'm concerned if importing the old configuration file will somehow mess up the new firmware or do people really have the patience to set each option one by one again?

That is definitely not true , if you are convinced then show us a cisco document-example where this is stated.

The most common configurations on the older releases are supported on the new
version and can be kept after upgrading. However, we recommend that you reset
your device to use the default settings when you upgrade to this version and
reconfigure your device as there are many new features and changes on this
version.

 - I will not dig at all cost to be right , but in general this may not always be present and or in special release with special fix or new major version , in big-switches it is certainly not applicable.

Do you have any suggestions on the RV series on how to re implement all settings? Is there a shortcut I'm missing?

Not sure what is the device here, if you can take the backup and restore if you like to restore the config.

But if the config it self has bug, then after restore may not work, so you need to build the config from scratch to make it work.

So always suggest to copy the best known good version of configurataion take backupo, so you do not need to do this practice of entering 1K configuration lines all time when you have issue.

make sense ?

ow do you make a configuration backup?  For the 2nd time my RV340 will not let me log it. Last time I had to do factory reset and then reneter the config.  Now, I cant log in again, this is getting old that it randomly doesnt allow me to log in with proper credentials.
