Had enjoyed the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra's debut album, and was excited to receive the follow-up for Christmas. I happen to be a tremendous Jeff Goldblum fan, which my family always remembers when looking for suitable gifts, but it's not a novelty 'famous actor starts a band' type act-- the instrumental pieces are the perfect backdrop for a party where you want a little music playing in the background while people eat and chat and you want to set a Good Time mood, if you happen to like a little jazz (has a super mid-century hip and happening vibe to me), but the songs with vocals really hit my personal sweet spot where jazz is concerned. There's a sense of collaboration and fun and play, and a great mix of songs I learned from my grandparents and things I get to experience for the very first time.

What a fun throwback to before I was a musician myself. Bought this for my sweetie after seeing Jeff on Colbert, she doesn't even dig lounge jazz, but she fell hard for this. All the songs take you somewhere happy or at least glad, ending with Jeff singing a lullaby on the last track. Guest vocalists all over the place. The ONLY time I've ever even been able to stand Miley Cyrus...but there she was, doing more than the doctor ordered, like she was entering that old world with new heart and ears. And naming the band for a music teacher? Genius! Best $12 I spent all year!
