If the 70's was the golden era of the gialli, the 90's was the nadir of the genre. Previously reliable directors started churning out substandard "sexy" thrillers due to poor budgets and a lack of inspiration. Fading stars were sleep-walking through films for a paycheck. Because of these reasons I’ve previously given the Mya DVD (with the title Crime of Passion) a wide berth , but when I saw all the names involved in the production, I thought it might be the exception to the rule. Surely a film directed by Flavio Mogherini (The Pyjama Girl Case), shot by Luigi Kuveiller (Deep Red & Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion) with a soundtrack by Gianni Ferrio (Tony Arzenta, Death Occured Last Night)…

In the 90s the Italians seem to have found a new (and cheaper) way of making their Gialli by shooting them in Eastern Europe. Here it's Bulgaria which serves as the backdrop for a Giallo-(melo)drama assembling quite a cast with Fabio Testi, Serena Grandi and Florinda Bolkan.
Unfortunately all are pretty much typecast with nothing much to do. Testi plays the guy who fucks everything that moves, Grandi shows her grandi assets and Bolkan acts as the bitchy old actress in the background.
