Can't believe it took me so long to hear this. Fier and Laswell doing avant-funk. And Bootsy on guitar- that was unexpected. These are some mighty cool grooves. Fier is an understated drummer, but he does some innovative stuff. The vocals and lyrics are outstanding, if dark at times. A unique album. Superior musically, IMHO, to "Pure", but the latter is in this musical vein and good as well.

More LORI CARSON she alone gave this band the sensuous sound it has and gave it the soul it has when she left the band fell flat in my opinion

Happy to find this on MP3, as the CD had been long lost. Great music, awesome voice; fills the room and paints the mood.

Listened to this CD closely for the first time in a while. I've forgotten how outstanding this CD is. While I have not heard Pure, I have ordered it hoping it that will be anything close to this CD - and hopefully far away from Dead Inside which is a whole different planet. Great vocals, great music, great lyrics, it has it all.

As a previous reviewer, upon first listen, a friend's copy of this CD never left my car CD player for weeks. The grouping of Lori Carson's seductive voice and great beats relentlessly grabbed my attention. I found myself replaying poignant lyrics, reciting them in my head joyously, relishing not only the words, but especially Carson's delivery. Unfortunately, I returned the CD and did not purchase my own copy, allowing the music to blend into the mess of my subconscious.
A year later, in great serendipity, while viewing Neil Jordan's production of "The End of the Affair," little snippets of dialogue caught my ear!
The Golden Palominos!
Much of "To A Stranger" is recitation of beautiful Graham Green dialogue from "The End of the Affair." The Golden Palominos have taken these amazing words delivered by Lori Carson; matched them with equally emotive music to evoke the very essence of the exceptional novels love affair.
If you are a fan of Graham Greene or music that simply won't leave your subconscious, check this disc out.

i remember when this album came out - i liked and even baught the singles, but i didnt buy the album. i recently scored a copy and instantly rememebred why i liked the singles so much. this is probably the best golden palominos album (and if you like this kind of palominos, be sure you also buy "pure".
stand out songs on this album for me include "sleepwalk", "these days", and "twist the knife". angrier yet very cool songs that are always worth a hum along would definently include "prison of the rhythm", and probably "a divine kiss".
good songs, great lyrics, fantastic beats/drums, artful guitars. this album is worth buying on any level you can think of. go get it!

Grooviger Rock und langgezogene Gesangslinien
Reviewed in Germany on February 25, 2018
