Retired KL carpenter wins nearly RM13.6m jackpot by betting on sons’ car licence plates
KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — A 77-year-old retired carpenter from Kuala Lumpur won the Sports Toto Jackpot with a total value of nearly RM13.6 million by betting on his children’s car registration numbers.
The lucky winner, whose name was not disclosed, hit the Sports Toto 4D Jackpot on May 3, the numbers forecasting house announced in a statement today.
“My friends always said that I am playing a game that I won’t win, but I have never missed a single draw because I feel that as long as I play, I still stand a chance to win.
“True enough, I have finally won the jackpot by spending only RM2 per draw,” he told Sports Toto Malaysia when collecting his prize money here.
The winner said he would always bet on his children’s car registration numbers but never won anything.
And yet he never gave up, continuing to place his bets on the new car licence plates when both sons changed vehicles recently.
“I won because of their new cars with car registration numbers which are 2425 and 2085.This pair of new numbers has brought me luck,” he added.
He said with a betting of RM2, he was lucky to hit the jackpot on the first draw, taking away a total of RM13,581,288.80 in prize money.
He also said he would share the winnings with his two sons who brought him luck.
