Looking at the most beautiful man ever created! Also, learning from those who knew him best what it was like being with him for a few hours. His soft romantic voice and his gift of living.

I wish this was a dvd but it was a wonderful show. I like documentaries on old Hollywood and I collect movies (dvds & vhs) and books, film stills, and various memorabilia of just that. Errol is one of the great actors in movies in the 1930s and through the 1950s. Though his acting isn't like a Spencer Tracy or a Cary Grant, he did bring something to the film, like Tyrone Power did, a likability and just plain beauty of a guy with a wink in his eye and a sword in his hand. This video shows all that. The books about him, try to understand him, they look too deep into his possible soul, instead of just enjoying it for the shear fun of it. I like the videos of swashbucklers.

As a longtime member of the International Errol Flynn Society, I am always looking for fresh ,or new information on our first ,genuine Aussie superstar . I had previously had a VHS copy of the above programne, and I thought a DVD would provide me with a better quality product . Sadly this is not the case . The information within the programne is of interest, and their are some clips that were new to me at the time , but the film content is mostly , bad quality trailers, with the overuse of " Santa Fe Trail " trailer in particular, covering the gaps . It would appear that the producer had very little money at his disposal, and had to accept cheap, bad quality material, including " Santa Fe Trail " which , co incidentaly happens to be out of copyrite to put it all together . Sadly, the quality of the DVD is no better than the VHS, but the good bits are the extended interviews with John Huston, Vincent Sherman , an Beverly Aadland . The best doco , sofar , on Mr Flynn, is in the first Errol Flynn Signature Collection DVD package, " The Adventures of Errol Flynn ", directed by David Heely .

Flynn was a great star, but was he a nazi? 'The Adventures of Errol Flynn' does not deal with all the dirt Charles Higham dug up. If Flynn wasn't a nazi, he chose some very queer chums. Higham suggests British spooks identified Flynn as a nazi agent in WWII, & then 'turned' him - blackmailed him into working for the Allies. His file in the UK is still secret. Rum business, eh?
I seem to remember from one of David Niven's autobiographies, how Flynn used to insult Jewish figures in Hollywood. Is my memory going, or does anyone else recall this?

I am a huge fan of Errol Flynn. I am very familiar with most of his movies and I've read countless books on this amazing man. Sadly, he was never given the credit he truely deserved for his talent as an actor and for what he brought to the movie industry. Instead, he has usually been shown in a bad light with his shortcomings magnified and been the brunt of jokes like "In like Flynn". The stories written about Errol Flynn being a Nazi and a homosexual are pure rubbish and untrue! I had heard about this film "Errol Flynn, Portrait of a Swashbuckler" and I had heard nice things about it. I was pleased it was available on DVD. First let me say that I was very pleased with the content of this film; the way his films and life was covered - mixed in with interviews from people who knew him best. Being very well read on the subject of Errol Flynn, I found that this film was accurate to his true person and very interesting - especially the interviews which were extra special and heartwarming. Interviews of Mickey Rooney, Robert Douglas, David Niven, his ex-wife, Nora and two daughters Rory and Deidre. They speak of the true Errol Flynn - one who was talented, intelligent, adventurous, fun-loving, charming, romantic, a gentleman and a wonderful father. Yes, he was a human being with vices and short-comings. But rarely known to the public he also had health issues which weakened him in the prime of his life. Perhaps he may have believe his life would not be long and lived his life to the fullest. Something most people would probably do. The reason I did not give this film a rating of 5 stars is due to the poor quality of film footage that was used. It certainly was not taken from Digitalized remastered films which are now becoming available and for which we are spoiled by. Inspite of the poor quality of the film footage, I would not hesitate to buy this film - it was very nicely done. Another item I would highly recommend is the book "The Life and Career of Errol Flynn" by Thomas McNulty. That too, does justice to this wonderful man and talented actor.

This is a must have DVD for any fan of Errol Flynn. It will stay in my home movie library forever. It really is very well done, with some fantastic interviews. I also loved Olivia de Havilland, they had such cemistry together on-screen & off. It seemed her heart had been broken when she found out he'd died so young. This is a very moving & sad tell all of his life, with warts & all. But it doesn't take away from how wonderfully talented & loved he was as an actor. He will always be Captain Blood & Robinhood to me...

There are some facts, which should not be neglected. First of all, the documentary itself runs about 47 minutes. As a bonus (?) there are some - more or less - in-depth interviews with John Huston, Janet Leigh, a former director and two of Errol Flynn's ex-lovers, which add up to 112 minutes and generally do not offer much insight. Except for John Huston's brillantly vivid recollections of the shooting of The Roots Of Heaven.
To say it clearly, the documentary is much too short than to offer more than a hectic general look on the fly-past. Whoever expects a profound study on the career and personality of Errol Flynn, will surely be disappointed.
Another reason for the low rating is the technical quality of the program, which dates from 1983. Neither sound nor picture have been remastered and to say they are mediocre, is definitely an euphemism.
The best you can assert is, that this documentary makes you wish for more and better information. But as long as there's nothing else available, you have the choice to cling to this one or to give it a pass.
