      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Though it can't always sustain its frenetic pace, Run's sharp subversions of romcom clichés are never less than entertaining thanks to Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson's electrifying performances.

Kathryn VanArendonk New York Magazine/Vulture While I'll always feel that the start of Run was fairly strong, especially the first two episodes, in some senses it was doomed to messiness from the very start -- you just couldn't see it yet. It's a show that refused to be its whole self from the jump. Rated: 2/5 May 26, 2020 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Brazen, sexually charged and a little bit wild. May 18, 2020 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine Fueled by deeply committed performances from Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson, Run is an energetic hybrid of rom-com and action thriller whose half-hour episodes move as swiftly as the vehicle that is their primary setting. May 1, 2020 Full Review Olly Richards NME (New Musical Express) Phoebe Waller-Bridge returns to TV with an addictive, screwball romcom thriller...the genius Fleabag creator produces and cameos in HBO's enormously entertaining new series. Rated: 4/5 Apr 29, 2021 Full Review Reyzando Nawara Film Inquiry As far as a relationship dramedy goes, Run clearly has a lot of potentials. But in the end, it feels more like a failed attempt when it decides to aim for something bigger. Jun 9, 2020 Full Review Mel Campbell ScreenHub The pleasures of Run lie in just being with its characters as they abandon themselves to the journey. And its secret weapon is the chemistry between Wever and Gleeson, who are absolutely convincing as former lovers thrown back together. Rated: 4/5 May 21, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This show was anything but boring. Watched it in 3 hours and I started it just for Merritt Wever and the whole show turned out to be pretty good and genuinely entertaining. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review martin d I'm three episodes in and struggling to stick with it. There is something about dialogue that indicates straight away how good a series is going to be and Run is right on the border with unconvincing dialogue that's primary purpose seems to be to immediately explain the plot, when the best dialogue is simply natural that reveals the plot over time, the writing in Run is trying to be clever but ends up just being clumsy. The chemistry between the two main characters just doesn't seem that genuine, supposedly a bond so great that they have been out of each others life for so long that they don't know anything about each other, this just seems like writers trying too hard to be "creative". It is always questionable if you should go and see the band that you grew up with, when they reform late in life, so often it is better just to keep with the old memories, and Run seems to be about a friendship was probably best kept as a happy memory. As many of the positive reviews seem to agree that it runs out of steam towards the end I doubt I will stick with it as if I am seeing the best first it is probably not for me. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved it. Sexy, funny, sad, audacious - it didn't stray from the more difficult facts of the situation, and, in other ways and unlike so many shows, it had the courage to take its black comedy elements what they to go. Plus Gleeson and, especially, the divine Wever were just wonderful. Found the Phoebe Waller-Bridge character annoying (and I usually adore her), which cost it a star, but the rest was so fresh and surprising. If you've ever had a regret in life - and who hasn't? - you'll relate. Really sad that it was cancelled, because I so wanted to spend more time with these people. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It was engaging at first and quickly loses momentum and mystery. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A fun, adventurous ride, ‘Harold and Kumar' vibe all over the place. Moving from places to places in a holiday atmosphere, the show will make you want to join their escape. Their chemistry is brilliant, however too many coincidences in the plot | Follow us at @uncle.review Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Was a fine show, last few episodes brought it down for me. Which is a shame because I liked the two main actors Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
