Jordan Smith was one of the most surprising singers on season nine of The Voice. His light and airy voice with a high-range got all four of the couches to turn their chairs, though they were expecting to see a woman. He revealed on the show that his more feminine voice gets him called “ma’am” on the phone and in the drive-thru, but he thought it was important people not be ashamed because “you’re made that way and that’s how God intended for you to be.” He eventually chose to be on Team Adam Levine and won the whole season. What has he been up to since then?
In 2015, when he appeared on The Voice, Jordan was only 22 years old and felt lucky to finally have a chance at making it big, even if not all the winners of the show go on to successful careers. He was rejected the first time he tried out for the show. But he tried again and this time made it onto the main stage. He went from singing with the church choir in a town most people spend their whole lives in, to singing in front of celebrities and a national television audience. But most singers seem to fall out of the public eye shortly after winning. Here’s how his singing career has been going.
In 2016, Jordan performed on The People’s Choice Awards, released his first and second studio albums, and also married his girlfriend, Kristen Denny. In 2018, he released his third studio album and wrote a song for Celine Dion that was on the soundtrack for Deadpool 2. In 2019, he was in a car accident in a car that he apparently bought with his winnings from The Voice. Thankfully he wasn’t injured, posting pictures of his upside-down car on Twitter, but saying he had only suffered a scratch.
Like most people, Jordan had a hard time through the difficulties of 2020, he decided to use his music to inspire people who were also struggling. He released a single, “Great You Are,” in 2021, which will be part of the album he plans to release with the Provident Label Group. While he isn’t a household name, his net worth is estimated to be in the millions, so he has managed to build a successful career for himself. Even though it’s not as much as any of the coaches’ net worths, it’s more than enough to live on.
Winners of The Voice don’t seem to have the success or lasting careers that some winners on American Idol have had. But with his unique voice and hard work, he has managed to create a successful career for himself. While his music seemed to go on hold for a couple of years, he has a new album coming out later in 2021 that he hopes will bring comfort to those who need it.
