Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Absolutely did not enjoy my experience here. If you come by ferry and go to the convention center majority of the entry points are closed and I genuinely mean Majority. I understand covid restrictions are still valid, but it does not mean opening only 1 or 2 doors and none of the entry points favour the ferry passengers.
We went to the Lohas show, other than the entry that indicates the Hall number, by the time you get to the first floor there is absolutely no sign or indicator where the Lohas show is. This does not appear to be good business in attracting walk in. The convention center is very clinical. Nothing to wow about. Sunset view is nice.

We recently attended the Sting concert at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. This is a pretty good venue for concerts. Crowds can be moved in and out of the convention halls quite quickly and there is easy access to public transportation, restaurants and a bar district in Wan Chai.
We have attended concerts here in the past, sitting in the sections farther back, namely the Red and Yellow zones and have found sound quality to be quite good for indoor venues like the HKCEC. Two large screens show close ups of the artists which allows an enjoyable experience to be had from the back sections. However, the Blue (front) zone offers the better experience for obvious reasons of being closer to the artists. During encore, patrons in the zone were also freely able to stand just behind the VIP zone.
On the night, a talented pianist Rosey Chan kicked off the evening, playing a few of her own scores as well as a couple classics like Debussy's Claire de Lune. The main event started 45 minutes later and Sting played for seemingly two hours, including three encores. Sting remains in top form, belting out those high notes like he was still a much younger lead for The Police. Kudos also goes to his 5-man band who were equally impressive.
If intending to fly to an Asian country for international artists on world tour, HKCEC is a very good option to consider as the ticket prices in the front zone could be less expensive when compared with other cities (in the case of this Sting concert, HKCEC front zone tickets were cheaper than Singapore and Manila). However it can be difficult to procure front zone tickets for major draws like Sting, so it's always good to book tickets as early as possible!

Historically, this is a very important site, marking a turning point in Hong Kong’s history. It was here that the 1997 handover took place and Britain handed Hong Kong back to China.
It’s horizontal form juts out over the harbour and is in stark contrast to all the surrounding skyscrapers. There are a number of competing theories about the roof design. Some say it is based on a turtle and others say a lotus leaf or the wings of a seabird in flight. It reminded me a little of the Sydney Opera House.
I’ve not been inside and unless you are attending an event here, there’s no real reason why you would venture in. However, there are several things to look at or do from the outside, including:
1. Harbour Views - from the front, you look directly across the harbour towards Kowloon and the iconic green and white Star ferries shuttle past this point from Wan Chai to TST
2. History - The tall column at the front stands as monument to the 1997 handover of Hong Kong to China. At its base, is a commemorative plaque.
3. Symbol of HK - the striking golden sculpture at the front is a Bauhinia flower. Positively gleaming in the sunlight, it is the national symbol of Hong Kong.
4. Current Exhibitions – Currently there is a Manga exhibition. About 30 larger-than-life Manga figures fill the square at the front.

I had been looking forward to re-visit the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) as soon as I knew I was going to HK. This huge exhibition centre, with a rooftop designed to echo a bird soaring in flight, was built in 1997. It was used to host the 1997 HK handover ceremony and was also voted as the Best Convention & Exhibition Centre in Asia many years ago.
To me, the most attractive feature of HKCEC is its exterior design and its architecture, as it's also a landmark of Hong Kong. Its rooftop was originally designed as a seabird in flight, but many people think it resembled the Sydney Opera House. Although I actually think it looks like a tortoise pulling the HK island towards the Kowloon peninsula.
Apart from its amazing exterior, I also admire the interior. HKCEC is a huge exhibition hall which covers over 53,000m2. It houses 2 x 5,700 convention halls, 8,000m2 of function areas, 2 theatres, 52 meeting rooms, 7 restaurants and a huge open space area. Due to its advantageous harbourfront position, it also offers a fantastic view of the HK island skyline through its vast curtain of glass windows. We strolled up and down the exhibition halls and had a fantastic time exploring. The only downside was the building looked a bit dated than I remembered 20 years ago, but I believed it was just reasonable wear and tear.
Personally, I love this venue due to my personal interest in beautiful and modern architecture. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea as it's actually only a huge exhibition hall after all. However, I'll still recommend it to anyone who is nearby, or at least to go in and have a look at the inside of this beautiful building.

The Convention and Exhibition Centre is well situated if you are attending concerts or events here in Hong Kong. It is located within short walking distance to the Wan Chai MTR and overpass bridges keep you out of the sun and rain if needed. The hall spaces are suitable for large scale events as well as concerts. We watched Michael Buble last night and were happy with the venue. However, I see little reason to visit the HKCEC as a tourist site. It looks nice from the outside so why not take a picture from the Star Ferry while approaching the island from Kowloon but I'd save your time and visit more interesting places while you are in HK.
The restaurants seem ok at the HKCEC but we can't really comment as we've never eaten there, much preferring some of the nice Thai, Indian and other restos 5 minutes walk away in Wan Chai. Also, the view of the harbor is nice but there are great views of the harbor from many locations on both sides so you don't need to go here simply for the view.
If you are coming for events or performances, HKCEC is fine! You'll have a good evening!

Where annual Art Basel Exhibition held every year gathering almost artist all over the world. It also the site of handover of Hongkong territory from U.K to Chinese Govt. I miss the it and will come back soon.

We checked out the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre as part of a trade show while we were in Hong Kong and area for a business/pleasure trip recently.
To say the building is enormous doesn't seem to do it justice as it is mind-bogglingly huge. If you weren't paying attention I see how a person could get lost trying to find an exhibition hall or meeting room.
Another reviewer on here mentioned a Jackie Chan movie where this building was shown, I had to like their post just for that as I am a big Jackie Chan fan and thought the same thing as I was walking into the building "Wow Jackie Chan was here and I saw it on film!" Kinda dumb I know but fun for those of us who are fans of Asian cinema, it was featured in New Police Story (2004) and Gen-X Cops (1999) both which I own and have watched and enjoyed numerous times.
Great building, well laid out and one of the biggest Convention/Exhibition centres I have been in. Good job Hong Kong!

My last stay in this hotel was very disappointed. The room was very small. See photos. The bed mattress was very hard and uncomfortable. I can’t sleep the whole night. I will not recommend anybody to stay in this hotel.

Staying in adjoining hotel made exploring the convention center very easy. I was able to walk around area, see the shops . The walking area around outside of convention center is obstructed by construction everywhere you turn. But the center is spacious. Not much else got my attention, except one of the stores had a cashless checkout for purchasing. This was very interesting for me. I sense this will be a future system coming soon .

The HK Convention Centre is located at the water on HK Island in the area known as Wan Chai.
The CIEFC is located in Mainland China in the city of Guangzhou (Canton) and is approximately a two (2) hour “Through Train” journey from the Hung Hom Train Terminal across Victoria Harbour on the peninsula of Tsim Sha Tsui.
There are several “Western” hotels in the City of Shenzhen which is across the HK Border into Mainland China.
There are several cities on the highway to Guangzhou but I have never stopped in any of them so I cannot provide any comments about hotel accommodations.
Once you get into Guangzhou you will again find several “Western” hotels to choose from.
How far is Kowloon to Hongkong airport amd asiaworld expo?

Mish have you the exact answer when taking the Airport Express Train. The Asia World Expo is the next stop after the airport approximately 2 minutes more of a ride.

Hongkong Convention and Exhibition Center located on Hongkong islands (center of Hongkong) isn't very from AsiaWorld-Expo at Chek Lap Kok Airport, about 40 km you can drive 35 minutes buy bus. You should take a train express about 25 minutes to get there. There are many hotels in Hongkong center or you can move to Mong Kok to check in hotels or shopping in Ladies Market

you can only enter lobby area during normal days . during exhibitions , organizers have their own entry fees or passes.

Hi Ashyow,
For you the best way to reach Convention Center is via MTR. You can take a train from Tsim Sha Tsui to Admiralty, then change to a blue line train going to Chai Wan. Get down at Wan Chai and take a 10 min walk to the convention center.
