Abbie Cornish is slipping into Anna Nicole Smith's shoes.

The actress, 41, was seen for the first time on the set of the upcoming movie Trust Me, I’m a Doctor in Toronto on Thursday, May 2. Cornish plays Smith, the late model and actor who died of an accidental overdose in 2007 at 39.

Cornish wore a silver dress and colored beads on set and appeared to be recreating Smith's outfit from an appearance at a 2005 Pride parade in West Hollywood, California.

News of the upcoming movie first broke in February, it was announced that Kal Penn, 47, would executive produce and star in the film based on the 2017 book Trust Me, I'm A Doctor: My Life Before, During and After Anna Nicole Smith by Dr. Sandeep Kapoor.

Deadline first reported Cornish's casting as Smith on May 1, and the actress confirmed the news on her Instagram the following day.

"I am beyond excited to announce that I will be playing Anna Nicole Smith in the upcoming feature film Trust Me I'm A Doctor with @kalpenn directed by @thaneeconomou," she wrote, tagging both Penn and the film's director, Thane Economou.

Penn is playing Kapoor, a Los Angeles physician who was among several people investigators charged with felonies related to Smith's Feb. 8, 2007, death in Florida. Linda Hamilton is expected to portray Kapoor's attorney Ellyn Garafalo, per Deadline. Penn was also seen on the movie's set on May 2, wearing a T-shirt that bore the movie's title.

In 2009, Kapoor was charged with eight felonies, including conspiring to furnish controlled substances, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining fraudulent prescriptions, with prosecutors alleging he prescribed Smith with methadone and Vicodin, among other drugs.

In 2010, Kapoor was cleared on all charges related to her death. Years later, he appeared on the docuseries Scandal Made Me Famous and said his relationship with Smith gained tabloid attention when photos surfaced of the two cuddling at a Pride parade.

“I wouldn’t necessarily really classify her as a friend because it was one social occasion," he said at the time. "I mean, a friend is someone you go to dinner with and hang out with on a regular basis. So it was that one day at the charity parade. I would say, yes, I made a misjudgment."

Trust Me, I'm a Doctor is not the only movie centered around Smith's life in the works: Deadline reported back in December that filming for Hurricanna, starring Sylvia Hoeks, Holly Hunter, Mark Duplass and Nicholas Hamilton, was underway.
