No. 1 Pace Shuts Down No. 18 Falcons to Advance to Conference Final

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 1 Pace University women's lacrosse team put on a defensive show Wednesday night, holding No. 18 Bentley University to a mere three goals in a 15-3 win in the Northeast 10 Championship Semifinals.

Pace will host the final this coming Saturday at 12 p.m. with another meeting against the Adelphi University Panthers.

Nikki Mottes set the tempo, scoring two unassisted goals to get the show started. Bentley found the back of the net after but issuing the Pace response was Mottes, recording her earliest hat trick of her career, with Porcello assisting on the goal.

Two more goals went into the back of the cage, both in favor of the Blue and Gold to extend the lead to 5-1 at halftime. Angelina Porcello scored an unassisted goal and then found Annie Sheehan to extend the lead. Porcello's goal was her 200th career goal.

The two teams traded goals in the first couple minutes of the third quarter, but the Falcons' offense stagnated as the Setters scored eight unassisted goals, lasting until 4:14 left in the fourth quarter.

Mottes finished with five goals while Mackenzie Carita, Sheehan, and Porcello scored twice. Porcello added three assists, five ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Samantha Tanguay made 11 saves while covering just under 58 minutes in the cage.
