Chris Jasper was an integral member of The Isley Brothers and after their split in 1984 of Isley Jasper Isley. For this reason everyone could expect more. Jasper was the key songwriter, instrumentalist, producer, and arranger most of The Isley Brothers material. He is responsible for hits like Who’s That Lady, Fight the Power, Live it Up, and For the Love of You. He sang the original version of Caravan of Love / I Can't Get Over Losin' You.
In 1987 he released Superbad with its stormy funky title track. The rest I can't remember because I fell asleep while listening to.
So Time Bomb is his second solo album. A mixture of some IB-Funksters and comtemporary (smooth) soul numbers. Jasper uses lots of electronic instruments on this album. But it is no electro funk like the Jonzun Crew created it before and it's not that funky stuff were used from The Isley Brothers in the mid 70s. It's more the sound like Mtume or Mtume used to play.
His melodies are not memorable in any way you can imagine. The album is forgotten the moment the CD ends.
Don't get me wrong: it's not a bad one. Chris sings nice and smoothy, the sound is full and funky. The only problem is we have so many other album like this on the market. **1/2 stars - with much of good will.
