Highland Park High School currently shapes my junior year with its academic challenges and athletic triumphs. With the opportunity and access to many AP/Honors classes, I've thrived on intellectual exploration, support, and growth the school has given me. The educational availability Highland Park High School provides has also enabled me to create strong, supportive relationships with multiple impactful teachers that I value greatly. As a sprinter on the girls' track team since freshman year, I have found my home away from home—a second family, teaching me discipline and teamwork. In the volleyball program since freshman year, I've experienced growth through resilience on and off the court. Engaging in many clubs, including the Rotary Interact Club, I can channel my passion for service and make a positive impact on the community. Highland Park beautifully weaves academic excellence, athletic camaraderie, and community engagement, molding students into well-rounded, successful citizens.
As a rising senior, I’d call myself an expert when it comes to high-school. I know everything from the classrooms with the best AC (typically C hall first floor) to the best teachers (my AP US history teacher takes that prize). I would say my high school experience has been pretty ok. The building is great, very modern considering the library was just redone. I spend every study hall in that dang library, it’s my favorite place in the school. The best part of my school is the classes. All of them have some aspect that interests everyone and I mean EVERYONE. The worst part of my school though is probably some of the people. Sometimes staff at Highland Park High School ignore some students behavior. That behavior includes racism, homophobia, bragging about money, and bullying. I remember freshman year getting “teased” for being bisexual. Some guy asked me if I could partake in inappropriate sexual conduct with him and his girlfriend. All of that happened in front of a teacher.
I have attended all 4 years at Highland Park High School, although my experience was not exactly traditional, my time here has been mainly positive. Staff are eager to connect with students, the quality of education is high, and the facilities are always in pristine condition. I was a student mostly engaged in the art and theater scene and can attest to the amazing variety of programs available at HPHS. From traditional painting and drawing courses to photography, graphic design, glass and metal work, and ceramics, the number of creative courses is unmatched. The campus itself is fairly safe, people often leave items around unattended and fights aren't a common occurrence. HPHS has its flaws of course, but overall my personal experience has been positive.
