The Kid Stays In the Picture (2002)

In initial discussions about the film, director Brett Morgen described Robert Evans life as being “operatic in scale and emotion”. Much of this chameleon-like score contains one central theme that flows through the wildly-varying phases of Evans’ life in different guises. Circus music, gangster motifs, tarantellas, waltzes, and Golden Era film music are among the colours presented. Weaving its way through three or four of the cues in the score is Irving Berlin’s melody from “What’ll I Do”, which Evans told me was “the theme song of my life”.
