The Grand Palais in Paris is the iconic monument of the Rmn-GP, where we showcase our biggest exhibitions to best advantage in its vast spaces. We also host events organized by others, such as FIAC, Paris Photo, catwalk shows during Fashion Week, the Saut Hermes equestrian event, etc. Culture is represented here in all its forms, attracting over 2 million people each year.

Terrible exhibit. Paintings were not representative of his greatest work, exhibition space is crowded and poorly organized. Even though there were not that many people there on a Monday morning, it felt overcrowded because of the cramped space. The only good thing about it is that there was no line to buy tickets. (No need to buy tickets in advance or have a timed entry, at least not on a weekday morning.) I would advise you skip the El Greco exhibit and spend your time and money on the Lautrec exhibit also at the Grand Palais. That one had decent amount of space allotted to it and was very worthwhile.

I am a big fan of El Greco and was very disappointed with my visit today. The exhibition (from what I could see) was very good, but very poorly executed...we had timed tickets for 330pm and - after being made to wait in line standing over the stench of a sewer with timed tickets we bought online over a month ago - we were admitted to a packed and tiny exhibition where we could hardly see anything. Very poor logistics and use of the space...I would have rather not have seen anything at all than to experience this...very frustrating. I want my money back!

I was so disappointed with the Lautrec Exhibition. Not with the art, but allowing people to use there mobile phones and cameras.
Visiting from Australia, I would have thought Paris of all places would protect the observers experience of viewing an exhibition.
Instead I had to contend with dozens of people taking up close pics of the art work, this is appalling behaviour, and so disrespectful to the art experience.
I can’t believe you allow this to happen! Cameras and phones should be banned in my opinion.
Where is your integrity, dignity and respect for the art experience!

When visiting this exhibition on Nov 28, 2019, there were large crowds of people waiting outside. Organization to get tickets, get your coat into cloak-room was slow. Then, one can hardly imaging today, there was a dense stream with many visitors slowly passing the paintings, drawings. Yes, beautiful art, as we knew already. Amazing, how peoductive HTL had been, and so 'telling'with a few strokes of pencil.

We really looked forward to seeing the current Pompeii exhibit. We dutifully purchased our tickets in advance for a specific time slot. But what we found was a totally chaotic scene--if you want to be around hundreds of people not practicing social distancing, then this is the place for you! Yes, people wore masks, but there was no sensible direction of the many people visiting. Shambolic would be too kind a description. The exhibit itself was fine: 7/10. Nice rumble as the volcano erupts but I much preferred seeing the real site. The extent of the exhibit was also a bit underwhelming. We got out of there as soon as we could since it seemed to be a perfect incubator for Covid-19.

Walking along Champs Élysées we came to the Grand Palais which was an old palace converted to a giant ice skating rink. There were long queues to get in and we went to look through the entrance gates. It has a glass dome roof and natural lighting fill the whole space. Many visitors and locals were skating happily. This is a must visit for ice skaters.

What an amazing incredible exhibition hall- what a stately building: what iconic photos with the French tricolor flag flapping broadly and proudly in the fierce wind (see my one photo). No- we didn’t go in/ that’s for next trip... soon.

The Petit Palais has excellent exhibits, is the little sister of the Grand Palais across the street, and currently has a glass exhibition byJean Michel Othoneil, the French artist just inducted imto the Academie des Beaux Arts. It is NOT to be missed before Jan 2022. The building is extravagant Empire style and has overflow of art from carious periods in its permanent collection. A garden and exhibit space inside os calming and serene for a coffee and rest.

We went there in January 2019. The ski rink was open and it was a great late night activity for family and friends. The atmosphere was great. The only thing is that they could’ve made taking the ice skating shoes better since we had to walk on wet floors with our socks.

Totally agree with Phillip B’s August 2020 review. Way too many people in an enclosed space with NO social distancing. Such a shame as the exhibition looked so promising. We also left as soon as we could find the exit.

Здравствуйте. Сейчас в Гранд пале проходят выставки Эль Греко и Тулуз Лотрека. Получается, чтоб попасть в музей, нужно обязательно купить билет на одного из художников? А постоянная экспозиция? Ее как посмотреть? Можно ли без плкупки билетов на художников?

Jane F. has already reply to your question. It is open all the days except Tuesdays. You can book your tickets from different websites and combine them with other attractions and museums. Have a look to the website of tourism in Paris or FNAC or French tickets websites.

La nef n'est pas accessible depuis les autres parties du Grand Palais. Lors des expositions, vous-devez accéder à chacune d'elles distinctement.

I'm trying to figure out how to visit the 'Nave' in the Grand Palais - the big, central, glass room. On the Grand Palais' website, it says:
"- Can I see the Grand Palais atrium during my visit to a National Galleries exhibition? The atrium is part of the Nave in the Grand Palais which is not run by the National Galleries. It cannot therefore be seen during a visit to the exhibitions of the National Galleries, but it does have its own schedule."
Does anyone know where I can find this other schedule/have any information about how to visit that portion of the building? Thanks!

We've only seen the nave during an event or exhibition in the main central space. Since it is used often it is either in a state of setting up or taking down. Suggest you try to gain entry through the rear and ask for assistance
