The South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame inducts 10 new members

Coaches and players who made an impact in Palmetto State athletics or represented the state outside the borders are what make up the SC Athletic Hall of Fame.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center hosted the 62nd South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremonies where 10 new members took their place on the stage.

Winnsboro native and Fairfield Central standout Tyler Thigpen was one of the 10 as he had quite the eventful path to the NFL where he spent seven seasons.

Thigpen played quarterback at Coastal Carolina under David Bennett who gave Tyler the chance to play that position with the option of moving to another position if playing behind center did not work out. After being named the Big South Player of the Year, it's safe to say Bennett made the right call concerning Thigpen's position.

Lucas Glover should have gotten the Hall of Fame hustle award. After wrapping up play in the PGA Championship on Sunday in Louisville, Glover came into town for an afternoon news conference and the enshrinement ceremonies before leaving for Fort Worth Tuesday morning. Glover is competing in this week's Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour.

Former Gamecock running back Marcus Lattimore, who was unable to attend the induction ceremonies, was part of the class of 2024.  Despite an abbreviated career due to injury (2010-12), Duncan native Marcus Lattimore ranked sixth on South Carolina’s all-time rushing list with 2,677 yards, and owned the school record for rushing touchdowns (38) and overall touchdowns (41). His best season came as a freshman in 2010 when he rushed for 1,197 yards on 249 carries. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year and also earned unanimous Freshman All-American honors.

Lattimore was a fourth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He never played a game for the 49ers and retired from playing football at the age of 23. He went on to work as Heathwood Hall's head football coach before joining the Will Muschamp staff at South Carolina as Director of Player Development. He currently lives in Oregon.

Other inductees who were unable to attend - Former S.C. State football coach Oree Banks and Chester's Allison Feaster who starred at Harvard and the WNBA. She is currently the Vice President of Team Operations & Organizational Growth for the Boston Celtics.
