UCI Waitlist Questions

Waitlists/Deferrals

I just got waitlisted for UCI about 30 minutes ago; if I put my name on the waitlist, what’s the likelihood that I may end up attending UCI in the fall?

I’m not quite sure what waitlisting entails, and I’m skeptical of it; should I just drop my hopes of attending UCI? Because they’re already halfway out the door lmao

Sorry if it’s a stupid question :/ and congrats to all those accepted to UCI :)

Depends on their yield for this year, and whether or not they'll need to tap into the waitlist—as with all schools. Check UCI's Common Data Set to see waitlist statistics over the years: https://www.oir.uci.edu/Data-Hub/CDS-Reports.php.

theres no harm in opting into the waitlist so you should take that opportunity

Nab a spot and hope for a new global disaster that causes a bunch of students to rethink attending college 👍👍

Colleges will likely accept more from WL this year than other years.

It doesn’t hurt to accept the WL position if you think you would still go.

For planning purposes, count it as a rejection and plan on committing somewhere you are accepted.

If you get off the WL you have a short time to decide to accept the spot. If you get off the WL after May 1st, when decisions are due, you can accept and then withdrawal from the college you committed to, you will just lose your deposit (somewhere in the $150-400ish range depending on the school)

Ty for giving me hope

I was also waitlisted at UCI.

Their waitlist acceptance rate (% of people accepted out of that accepting the waitlist offer) was 2.12%. That number will inevitably fall even lower this year as most schools (likely) waitlisted a lot more people.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

This % looks wrong according to historical waitlists. Been about 20% accepted from waitlist for at least a handful of years, higher during the pandemic

2% when?

They are waitlisting a lot but also accepting a lot more off the waitlist this year tho

Yeah I guess. Depends.

I’m very biased too bc I’m on the waitlist

Haha I feel your pain

agree. I feel like many very qualified students are being waitlisted this year. I think they are trying to gauge their enrollment rate

Did anyone get off the waitlist yet??

Nothing as of yet :)) we’ll know for sure around mid May, after the national college decision date.

Did you ever hear back from the waitlist? In a similar situation this year.

Ah, and so the cycle begins :) I eventually got rejected to UCI over the summer if I remember correctly. I ended up going to community college, and honestly it’s not that bad - I was dreading it initially but it’s actually a lot of fun! PM me if you have any other questions!

I'm 11 months late, but are you planning to transfer to a UC after completing courses in CC?

you’re good :) never to late to ask these questions lmao

I do intend to transfer to a UC after the end of this semester (I applied to UCI again too!). Decisions for transfers come out late April - if you’d like, I can keep you updated!

ooh, i would love to stay updated! i take it you’re a sophomore right now?
