President Joe Biden today announced the nomination of Christine P. O’Hearn to serve as a U.S. District Court Judge in New Jersey.

Biden nominated O’Hearn, a partner at Brown & Connery, a major South Jersey law firm, at the recommendations of the state’s two U.S. Senators, Bob Menendez and Cory Booker.

She is Biden’s third District Court pick for the District of New Jersey, leaving three more seats still unfilled.

This week, two Biden picks, Julien X. Neals and Zahid Quraishi, appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee as candidates for the federal bench.

O’Hearn, a Camden County resident,  has been a trial lawyer for 28 years specializing in labor, employment and complex civil litigation.  She is a former adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School in Camden.

“Christine O’Hearn is a highly successful and regarded trial attorney with the intellect, thoughtfulness and temperament needed to be a brilliant federal judge, and I am proud to have recommended her for appointment to the U.S District Court of New Jersey,” said Menendez.

Booker called O’Hearn a “talented, experienced, and distinguished litigator who will serve honorably as a federal judge.”

““Throughout her career, Ms. O’Hearn has demonstrated a deep commitment to justice and an appreciation for the impact that our courts have on the people of our state,” he said.

If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, O’Hearn would be the tenth women on the U.S. District Court, and the seventh active judge not on senior status.

“Ms. O’Hearn has spent much of her career advocating for women in the workplace and defending the rights of workers against employee discrimination, harassment and a hostile work environment,” stated Menendez.  “She is well-versed in labor and employment law, is smart, thorough, and detail oriented, and I believe she will serve the people of New Jersey well through her administration of fair and impartial justice.

The judicial nominee comes from a politically influential law that includes South Jersey political powerhouse William Tambussi.
