Two people were killed and least a dozen others wounded in separate shootings in Savannah, Ga., late Saturday, according to local cops.
Around 7:35 p.m. Saturday, police received a report of a home invasion when an armed intruder forced his way into a residence. By the time cops arrived, the resident had shot at the intruder, who turned out to be a 16-year-old boy. He later died and police ruled the death a homicide, WJCL-TV reported.
Just two hours later, at 9:20 p.m., police found a man dead and a juvenile wounded upon responding to “a pair of shootings” near an intersection, Savannah authorities said in a brief statement.
“Police responded to the scene based on reports of shooting at around 9:20pm and discovered the adult victim, who had succumbed to his injuries,” the statement read. “Officers found the juvenile victim near the intersection of Montgomery and 56th Street. He was treated on the scene and transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center.”
Just a couple of hours later, at 11:55, “multiple precincts” responded to yet another gunfire report, this one from Ellis Square.
“The scene was secured, and multiple injured parties were located by officers,” police said. “In all, 11 adult victims were treated for injuries. As of now, no deaths have occurred because of the incident.”
Cops interviewed a slew of witnesses and collected evidence at the scene to fuel the ongoing investigation.
The weekend’s violence began Friday, when police responding to a shooting report found a gunshot victim with a non-life-threatening wound and took him to the hospital. The incidents were not related, police said.
“We will do everything we can … to hold you accountable,” Police Chief Lenny Gunther warned the perps, according to WJCL. “We don’t sleep. We’re 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365.”
