True Showman
Some artists are truly in their element on stage and Peter Allen was one of the best. Each performance eclipses the studio recordings and you can feel the energy he brought to the stage in every song. The between song banter is hilarious and the emotion he brings to his own compositions is moving. "Quiet Please, There's A Lady Onstage" and "Don't Cry Out Loud" are moving and honest
moments rarely captured on record.
Gone way too soon, this is a wonderful document of a true artist at work.

Among the first trips I ever took to my favorite record store, I bought this album; I had heard the original Broadway cast recording for "The Boy From Oz" and thought I might want to check out the real thing.
I really think that Peter wrote some great songs. "Only Wounded" is beautiful and I don't understand how a song like that can be lost over time. But personally, I get sick of the "Irving Berlin Medley" and the "Theme from Arthur."
If you're into cabaret artists, it's definitely worth checking him out. Other than that, I can see where he might get old. Personally, I love Peter and wish he was still around to write songs, have fun at live shows, and just enjoy life.
(And no one else in the history of live recordings loved his back-up singers like he did; and it sounds like they really loved working with him.)
