- Natalie1204Kolkata (Calcutta), India7,369 contributionsDefinitely one of the prettiest little seaports / beach towns I’ve seen. The place is charming and reeks of history. It can be a bit challenging to find parking over the weekend, but on a week day, you should be fine.
If you’re in Galveston, you must go downtown, and if you like history/seaports, then visit, even if you’re in the Houston or Texas city area. It’s quaint and reeks of charm and historyWritten May 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We couldn't find any other way to get to the island. There's an upper level that's good for dolphin viewing, but you can see them from the lower level as well. Just don't be in a rush, won't do you any good. Lol. You can feed seagulls from the back of the ferry. Good news is it's free!Written May 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Dales_BrideHouston34 contributionsI thoroughly enjoyed my harbor tour on the Seagull II. The Caspar in and the tour guide were very knowledgeable about the harbor and shared lots of information about dolphins, Galveston, the history of the harbor, and all of the floating vessels we encountered.

Overall, we enjoyed a visit to Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig.
Pros: Museum is a small, 3 story drilling platform anchored in Galveston port, close to the cruise terminal. The museum only charges a small fee and staff was very friendly. Visitors can easily get a basic understanding about the history and mechanics of oil drilling in about an hour. Actual equipment is displayed, and there is an introductory movie. From the gangway leading up to the museum and the outside areas, visitors have a beautiful view of the passing sightseeing and fishing boats and a large number of pelicans sitting on the nearby rocks. When we visited, there was plenty of cheap street parking closeby.
Cons: There is a large amount of reading throughout the museum, and it could be tedious. If I went back, I would probably spend the extra money for the audio guide. The air conditioning is really loud. Why do I care? When the air came on, it became really difficult to hear the video clips playing throughout the museum unless you are standing super close. The museum feels a little dated and in my opinion, the large gallery of famous Texas oil men and innovators was somewhat strange to me. Naturally, the display puts a very positive spin on the environmental impact of drilling.
Overall, I would be recommend for anyone with an interest in science.Written April 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You could spend about an hour in each taking your time.Written May 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bryan MOrem, United States4 contributionsDropped by to take a look at the view. The first level is pay to fish, but the 2nd level has a bar, with seating looking out to the ocean. We didn't fish, but one of the workers shared some pictures of recently caught fish and a couple of sharks.Written May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Pam J25 contributionsOverall there is a lot of history and it would take many days to appreciate all the detail. A little disappointing that the orphanage portion was almost an afterthought.Written October 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 404HappyTravellerSaskatchewan, Canada482 contributionsThis is a unique museum, as it has both an actual submarine, and a destroyer escort. Both have been adapted somewhat to allow for touring through them, but still retain all of the original atmosphere of when they were carrying out their missions. Most every area of both vessels are open, and touring through gives you a good view into life onboard for officers and crew. I never thought I would stand on the deck of an actual destroyer, or walk through a submarine, but now I’ve done both. As well, there is a good display that is mostly reading and photography telling the stories of the essential parts that women had in WW II. Very enlightening.Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Leaky BBoulder, CO351 contributionsWe purchased our $5 per person pass and went over to the bayou side of the park. Stopped at the shorter trails, which was good because it had recently rained and it was very muddy. In fact, one trail was so muddy we almost considered walking completely back around to get back to the trailhead. The towers are nice for standing up high and looking out. Apparently they were wiped out in a hurricane and have been newly rebuilt. Saw egrets, pelicans mainly.Written February 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- California_momofsixFairfield1,111 contributionsWe toured the neighborhood independently by car after downloading the tree sculpture guide map from the Galveston tourism website. The map was pretty easy to follow, the streets are not busy, so you can easily pull over to see the sculptures. Some sculptures are larger and more elaborate than others. It was kind of like a fun little treasure hunt. About a third of the sculptures are either deteriorating or have been removed. The real surprise to me was the historic neighborhood itself--so many beautiful houses and properties.Written April 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BeachBitchesSeabrook, TX1 contributionIt was pretty good, but could be a bit better. The log ride stopped in the middle of a ride, and I had been waiting in line for an hour. The Cyclone was pretty cool, but the lines were long even though we got there before it opened. An employee knocked my f,ood over, but I got a free meal, so that's bonus points.
The employees were attentive, kind, and patient with us, especially the people at the food stands. They were funny and helped me get a kid back to his parents, and helped me find my friends after.
The food was, as expected, expensive and very unhealthy, so 10/10. If you get the Loaded Funnel Cake, do vanilla ice cream, there's chocolate sauce included.
Its $5 for a small locker and $7 for a large locker, which is surprisingly cheap. The small lockers are about 1 sqft, and the large ones are double that.
Overall, a very fun trip. 8/10Written May 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
