Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans initially made his name in the NFL as a standout linebacker.
Ryans was drafted 33rd overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Texans franchise he’s now at the helm of. He racked up 971 tackles, 13.5 sacks, and 10 fumble recoveries during a 10-year playing career split between the Texans and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and earned Pro Bowl honors in two other seasons.
Oftentimes, the Mike linebacker, which Ryans played, is referred to as a defensive coach on the field. It’s fitting, then, that Ryans has continued to display his football acumen since transitioning to the coaching ranks in 2017.
He worked his way up rather quickly with the San Francisco 49ers, coordinating one of the best defensive units in football during his last two seasons there.
His successes with the 49ers helped engender his happy homecoming in Houston this season. To say it was a rousing success would be an understatement. Under Ryans, the Texans earned their first playoff berth since the 2019 season.
Who Is DeMeco Ryans’ Wife, Jamila?
The Texans will open the NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend slate this Saturday with a home tilt against the visiting Cleveland Browns. That’s a matchup Ryans’ longtime wife, Jamila Ryans, will doubtlessly be in attendance for.
Despite the spotlight her husband resides in, Jamila has largely managed to keep her personal life out of the public eye. Thus, the information available on Mrs. Ryans in the public sphere is relatively scarce.

Jamila does have a LinkedIn page, which confirms that she is a registered nurse. Though where she might have studied or if she’s presently plying her trade is unclear.
Her page also lists her as the director of her husband’s non-profit organization: the DeMeco Ryans Foundation. According to ClutchPoints, the foundation is a “nonprofit organization that aims to help youth through educational and recreational programs.”
Her devotion to and support for DeMeco is evident in the above clip of an interview which was conducted shortly after Ryans signed on to be Houston’s head coach.
Jamila is doubtlessly aware of her husband’s loyalty to H-Town and the Texans. After all, they started dating back when Ryans was dragging down ball carriers for the team. The couple was officially wed in June 2013, having recently celebrated 10 years of marriage.
The Ryans have grown into a family of five in that time. DeMeco and Jamila have two sons, MJ and Micah, and one daughter, Xia. It seems safe to surmise that the whole family will likely be in attendance for DeMeco’s first home playoff game as an NFL head coach.
