Forty Winks follows Fabio Berker, struggling Hypnotist in New York City, as he is blackmailed into being the world's first hypnotist hit man by a mysterious woman who finds out his degree is fake.
Thought-provoking, darkly funny, intelligently written and beautifully shot in black and white, "Forty Winks" is an incredibly mature and well established directorial debut from teen director William Atticus Parker, that takes a wonderfully off-kilter approach to heavy themes.
No wonder why the film features incredible actors like Susan Sarandon and John Turturro. All you need to do is listen to the dialogue, and look out for the way scenes are set up, and you'll quickly get it. In layman's terms, the screenplay is an absolute treat, deftly balancing comedy, mystery, drama and crime. It's magnificent to see such wonderful young filmmakers coming up through independent filmmaking, with such refreshingly original material.
This is a rollercoaster ride in which you'll be…
This guys going places, if you want to see where it all starts, watch this!!!
Forty Winks is a film Written, Directed, and Produced by Will Parker. The film follows Fabio Berker (Justin Marcel McManus), a struggling hypnotist living in New York City. Right off the bat, young director William Parker establishes that his film will not be your typical comedy or drama, in fact, it’s a combination of a few different genres like drama/dark comedy/thriller. Forty Winks has two film debuts, with director William Parker and lead actor Justin Marcel McManus. The quirkiness of the first scene takes a few minutes to get used to, but thanks to McManus’s performance, editing, and direction I felt comfortable once the film played on. I went into the film without seeing the trailer or even knowing the…
Impressive for a first feature. Filled with great visuals, famous actors that heighten the piece, an original concept and good writing. A promising start for Will Parker, who I've been talking to. Verdict: he's a lovely chap.
Here is a wonderful example of a budding genius.
It's clear to me that the writer/director (Will Parker) has tapped into the creative aether and this is just the first instalment of his oeuvre!
I am very much looking forward to his coming works/projects...I'm already addicted - I NEED ANOTHER FIX!!! - I've watched Forty Winks 3 times. It's one of the rare films that gets better every time you see it.
Everyone involved with this movie deserves retribution for their patience in working with a smarmy teen director and for having to follow the script he wrote.
A masterfully crafted dark comedy which at times turn into a eerie psychological drama and I'm not complaining
Set in the present day, the film follows Fabio (Justin Marcel McManus), who works as a Hypnotist in New York City. But life for Fabio could be a whole lot better. Fabio recently appeared on a popular TV show where he was invited to try and hypnotise the host. Failing to get her to fall asleep resulted in Fabio being quite embarrassed on national television. Not only that, but Fabio is financially failing and is struggling to pay rent, which is now overdue. Fabio generally feels frustrated with life and begins to question everything around him after maintaining his craft for a long time.
One day, Fabio finds a mysterious woman in his office (played by Susan Sarandon) who reveals…
Forty Winks is a micro-budget, truly American (or should I say New-Yorkian?) indie that’s directed by William Atticus Parker. Before we get any further, let’s get the facts right. Parker (who is the son of American actors Mary-Louise Parker & Billy Crudup) was only 17 years old when he made the movie in a total of 6 days. Not only that, he somehow convinced seasoned actors like John Turturro & Susan Sarandon (with Saradon doing more than just an extended cameo) to act in his debut film.
Now, with that out of the way, Forty Winks stars Justin Marcel McManus as Fabio Berker – a struggling hypnotherapist who is on the verge of emotional and financial collapse. When we first meet him,…
It’s incredibly inspiring to see such a young director/writer have this much passion and creativity to bring together Susan Sarandon & John Tuturro (two of my favourite actors) in this interestingly crafted story world with mysterious characters, filmed in beautiful black and white. Not only are Susan and John’s cameos great, but the amazing lead from Justin Marcel brings a certain charisma to the film too. I really love some of the dialogue and how you let certain scenes play out. Well done Will!!
