REPORT: Thatcher Demko Could Return Late In Oilers Series; Still Yet To Face Shots From Canucks Teammates - The Hockey News Vancouver Canucks News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko remains out of the lineup, but reports suggest he could return by game six or seven against the Edmonton Oilers.

Demko was reportedly ruled out through game four of the second-round series per reports from Frank Seravalli, but no official word has been given from the Canucks staff.

Seravalli reports today that Demko hasn't been taking shots during Canucks practice and that the team isn't allowing him to drop into his butterfly position.

For Demko to be back for game six or seven, he would need to face shots and move comfortably by the end of the weekend, and even then, it remains to be known how long his recovery process will take.

Demko's injury timeline is unknown other than that of head coach Rick Tocchet's original week-to-week time frame. Reports said that Demko was possibly dealing with a torn ACL in his left knee, but once again, there hasn't been any official diagnosis of his injury.

Demko has been seen on the ice working on skating. He often hits the ice after the official portion of Canucks practice has ended, backing up the claim that he isn't facing shots or dropping to his knees.

Goalies are such a key position in hockey that the Canucks will remain cautious with their star goalie, much like they did at the end of the regular season. If the Canucks want Demko back at his best, not rushing him back from whatever he is dealing with is priority number one.

There are many reports about his injury, but until the team provides a definitive update, the answer to what is going on will remain a mystery.
