Sereda Ritter, 36, is facing arson charges after she got into an argument with a man and then lit his mattress on fire, according to the criminal complaint. On Tuesday, May 14, officers from the Johnstown Police Department were called to a duplex fire on Decker Avenue in Johnstown.

Police arrived on the scene and Ritter allegedly told them that a male had beaten her up and tried to set the house on fire. Ritter claimed that the man had hit her in the head, but police noted in the affidavit that there were no physical marks on her.

Ritter then claimed that he had lit a mattress on fire and that she attempted to put it out with water, according to the complaint. The man was detained by police for questioning.

In an interview, the man told police that Ritter had attacked him and lit the mattress on fire. Police noted that there were physical marks on his shoulder and that a piece of his hair had been ripped out. He also told police that Ritter had said, “I’m gonna kill us both” before she lit the fire.

Ritter was then arrested and police found a gray lighter in her pocket, according to the affidavit.

Police noted that the duplex where Ritter started a fire was connected to another duplex that had five people inside. Three of those people were juveniles.

Ritter is in Cambria County Prison with bail set at 10% of $50,000. She is facing felony charges of arson of an inhabited building and risking catastrophe along with misdemeanor charges of simple assault, false report and terroristic threats.
