Ange Postecoglou faces easy Tottenham decision vs Man City amid £25m transfer worry

Radu Dragusin

Ange Postecoglou is facing a number of Tottenham Hotspur decisions before the Premier League clash against Manchester City. Following four consecutive defeats, Spurs just about got back to winning ways on Saturday courtesy of a comeback victory against Burnley at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Pedro Porro cancelled out Jacob Bruun Larsen's opener in the first half with Micky van de Ven, who had been moved to left-back, flying forward late on which allowed him expertly stroked home the winner. The Netherlands international has formed an impressive partnership with Cristian Romero, however both have been hit by injuries.

Over the last few months, the influential duo have both been fit but even they have significantly struggled to prevent Spurs from conceding , with 31 let in this year and no clean sheet in their last nine league games. As a result of the clear depth issues, Spurs signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in the January transfer window in a deal which could rise to £25million.

In his first four months at the club, minutes have been scarce for Dragusin with just seven league appearances, totalling 244 minutes, to his name. With that in mind, talk of a swift departure has began to develop with The Sun reporting Napoli are interested in bringing him back to Italy.

It has also been noted that while Spurs don't want to sell, £40million would be their asking price with the player concerned about his long-term future. However, Postecoglou can simply ease those nerves as soon as Tuesday evening following a tactical switch against Burnley that saw Dragusin play the final 15 minutes off the bench.

The introduction of Dragusin saw Van de Ven deployed at left-back with the summer signing later scoring the game's decisive goal. After the game, Postecoglou discussed the tweak but appeared to suggest it is not his preferred solution to the injuries at left-back.

"Yeah, but at the same time I've been mindful with Micky that he's had a couple of injuries and the demands of playing left-back are a lot different to playing centre-back," he said in a press conference. "I just have to be careful - what's more important is what we're trying to build here, and I was reluctant to put him out there for that reason alone.

"It's been quite a disrupted season and playing full-back as opposed to playing centre-back is a lot different from a physical perspective. But yeah I thought for the last bit of the game it made sense, Skippy was only ever going to be able to play for more than about 60 minutes, he hasn't played for ages.

"And Radu coming on I thought was very good when he came on as well, so it helped us get over the line and Micky's goal was outstanding." Given the task that faces Spurs on Tuesday evening against Man City, Postecoglou may opt to start the same back four that ended the weekend victory with his side likely to be placed under significant pressure by the reigning champions.
