Margaret Stewart McNally OBITUARY

McNALLY, MARGARET STEWART, died on February 7, 2004. Mrs. McNally was born in Fernandina, FL on April 7, 1919 to Senator James Bailey Stewart and Margaret Johnson Stewart in their home on N. 3rd Street on “The Hill”. She graduated from Fernandina High School and Florida Southern College and then returned to teach elementary school in Fernandina. In 1946 she married Byron T. (Mac) McNally of Madison, FL. Mac was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and his subsequent management career with Firestone led them to a number of Florida locations, including Ft. Myers, Jacksonville, and Winter Park while Margaret continued to teach elementary school. She was an exceptionally caring and effective teacher much loved by her many students. In her professional career she was also active in local and state educational organizations and a member of several honorary societies. She and Mac traveled extensively in the United States and abroad before his death in Orlando in 1986. Margaret retired after a 35- year teaching career and later returned to Fernandina in 2001. In Fernandina she was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, the Ann Lannon Circle, the Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society and attended the “Tuesday Morning Sewing Circle”. She is survived by two sisters, Gloria Stewart Pikula (Mike), Frances Stewart Allen (Jim) of Fernandina Beach, and one brother, Dr. James Bailey Stewart, Sr. (Nancy) of St. Petersburg; six nephews, Colonel Michael Pikula, USAF Ret. (Mary), Stewart Pikula (Pat), Byron Pikula (Val), James Stewart III (Lisa), Colonel Daniel Stewart, USA (DeLane), and Harry Stewart (Jennifer); three nieces, Margaret P. Scott (Mitchell), Margaret A. Courtney (Carlton), and Rachel Ann Mills (Gary); eight grand nephews, five grand nieces, one great-grand niece, one great-grand nephew and several cousins. The family will receive visitors at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home on Wednesday February 11, from 6-8PM. A graveside service will be held at Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach, on Thursday, February 12, at 11AM, Dr. Bruce T. Jones, Pastor of the Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate. Margaret’s nephews will be pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Margaret’s name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
