The Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos was linked to four teams as he looks to sign his next contract in the NHL.

Stamkos will become a free agent on July 1st, and is future in the NHL remains uncertain. Indeed, things are complicated with the Tampa Bay Lightning. While the player and the organization would love to keep working together, the Bolts don't have a lot of money available and Stamkos could ask for an important salary.

Coming out of an 81-point tally, including 40 goals in 79 games this season, and six points in five playoff games, he showed that even at 34 years old, there's no doubt that he can play a huge role for any team.

Sportsnet just revealed that four teams emerges as top contenders to sign him, if his association with the Lightning ends: the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators.

Stamkos could be tempted to join any of these organizations. The Maple Leafs are among the best teams in the NHL, the Red Wings and the Predators should be contenders next season, and the Montreal Canadiens have Martin St-Louis as head coach, Stamkos' former teammate. While the Habs are still rebuilding, adding Stamkos to the line up could speed up the process.
