Manjummel boys fact check?

Ask

Hey guys! I watched manjummel boys twice in the past couple of days because I'm very fascinated by film making and I scoured the internet to find information about the nitty gritties of the actual incident. I found out the movie wasn't filmed in the real Guna caves? I was really hoping they somehow got the permission to film there but I mean I guess they weren't permitted to film there given how dangerous the caves actually are. That said, I have been looking for any literature or interviews where they speak of how exactly the actual events unfolded. Did he actually slip and fall in a crevice like in the film? Was the set that the movie was filmed in an EXACT REPLICA of the real caves? Did the filming crew get the opportunity to check out the caves? I haven't been able to find any footage of the real Guna caves also except some footage from the movie Guna starring Kamal Hassan. Any information or trivia is welcomed!! Thank you!!

I found out the movie wasn't filmed in the real Guna caves?

Afaik, most of the scenes of the restricted areas of Guna Caves, was shot in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam. The crew had to get special permission (after a lot of convincing and difficulties) to observe the closed/restricted areas, and they tried to replicate the same in a different set. The restricted areas of Guna caves are still considered extremely dangerous, and has been closed off for a long time with no access to it. Shooting a movie inside the caves could have been extremely risky ig and also very difficult to bring an entire movie crew down in the caves.

There are several interviews of the real Manjummel boys, from back then, and also even post the release of the movies, where they have talked about the incident. You can maybe google them.

Edit : Here is an interview with the Art Director detailing about the set, if you are interested.

Also, a very old interview from years back, with the original Manjummel boys, after the incident.

(There are many similar youtube videos, actually, you can always check them out too)

Hope this helps! :)

That scene of Bhasi walking naked through the cave was shot in the real Guna cave. And of course Bhasi was fully naked.

Are you sure? 🤔

From what I understand, it was incredibly difficult for them to even go visit the place, and get approval for that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I know it from this interview

So how did they shoot the movie Guna in there?

During that time there were no restrictions and kamal hassan was so adventurous ( he is the ghost director) the so called director felt dizzy after he saw guna cave so, kamal hassan took risk and made it to happen.

MB was partially shot in guna caves the large stone on which they stood and sing that song is actually real guna cave the art work starts after he fall down

Bro, instead of posting this here, you could have searched YouTube and you would have found plenty of videos.

And ofcourse they didn’t shoot in the caves. How could you possibly think that? That they took all the equipment there and shoot?

Did he slip? Ofcourse he did. That’s the whole story.

Firstly, they got permission to shoot in the guna caves, the aerial shots, the cave etc are original guna caves and the monkey skull they got is actually original which director got during their visit. Then they tried to capture all the details of guna caves through photographs and drawings They recreated the cave in kochi, about 30feet height structure, built of 3 parts, so in totality its 30 feet. The rescue scenes were all shot in the replica guna cave wheras the shot till he was falling was shot in actual guna cave

I thought those were also replica, heard or read. There were visuals of the sets showing the area too

Shooting in the cave is stupid and risky. Someone could have fallen in with all the people who would need to be present.

Yes he fell into a crevice.

The team did get an opportunity to visit the cave and take photos to make the set.

Outside caves scenes are shot on the actual guna caves. I was there on a trip, they blocked all tourists for certain time causing inconvenience to everyone. The date was Feb 2 or 3 of 2023.
