PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls boys, girls win fourth straight regional titles

| May 11, 2024 1:15 AM

• TRACK AND FIELD

LEWISTON — In what Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell described as a battle the entire day, it might not have been more evident than in the 5A girls 1,600-meter race on Friday at Sweeney Track.

In that race, Post Falls junior Kaylynn Misner edged Lake City’s Hazel Kunkel by .5 seconds.

Helped by Misner's victory, the Trojan girls claimed their fourth straight regional title, clipping Coeur d’Alene 96-94.

Post Falls won its fourth straight regional boys title as well, finishing with 117 points.

“Our boys were seeded to win and just took care of business,” Quesnell said. “The girls, it was just a team effort and they battled for each and every point. That’s a really talented Coeur d’Alene girls team they beat. I’m really proud of all of our kids. They did a phenomenal job.”

The Post Falls boys 4x400 relay team of Trenton McLean, Tallan McCracken, Dylan Wolfe and Cobe Cameron won and set a school record of 3 minutes, 24.73 seconds, surpassing the previous mark set at regionals last year set by McLean, Cameron, Wolfe and Ayden Triana.

“It’s been a really good group of kids that we’ve had here,” Quesnell said of the regional titles. “It’s always a team effort with the kids battling for each point they get.”

In 4A, Sandpoint swept boys and girls team titles for the second straight year.

The state 5A and 4A meet is next Friday and Saturday at Mountain View High in Meridian.
