The Balcony is UK based rock band Catfish and the Bottlemen’s debut studio album. It was released in the UK on September 15, 2014 while it was released on January 15, 2015 in the US.
The Balcony managed to chart at #9 on the US Billboard Alternative Album Chart and #8 on The US Billboard Independent Album Chart. The album was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize (2014-1015).
Singles released for the album are “Homesick,” “Rango,” “Kathleen,” “Fallout,” “Cocoon,” “Pacifier” and “Hourglass” in that order.
An edited version of “Cocoon” appears on the video game called FIFA 15 as part of the game’s soundtrack. There is also an alternate version of “Homesick” on their Kathleen and the Other Three – EP.
Though the album received mixed reviews upon its release, it later gained platinum status in the UK by selling 300,00+ units.
When speaking to Interview Magazine, Benji and McCann said:
Some of them go back six or seven years at least, even if they were just ideas. We wrote “Tyrants” when we were about 14. The album was written over a period of six or seven years and while bits of each song has brand new parts from the studio, the majority of it has been floating around. […] We’ve written loads of songs that didn’t make it on this album. We’ve got enough ideas for five albums!
