Editorial Reviews
Repressing. Full title: My Way - the Paul Jones Collection Vol. One. Paul Jones, the original Manfred Mann vocalist, cut a series of excellent solo albums and singles between 1966 and 1971, which charted his musical development from Pop/R&B to Progressive, through Dylan covers to Psychedelia, and his own song writing progress. This release contains the vocalist's 1966 solo album My Way plus nine bonus tracks made up of two previously unissued tracks ('Would You Believe' and 'Ouch'), three non-LP single sides ('Sonny Boy Williamson', 'Thinking Ain't for Me' and 'Softly (La Vita)') plus the rare Privilege EP containing four tracks. Includes special fold-out sleeve with extensive liner notes, photos and other memorabilia. RPM.

You know the voice, Paul Jones, the original vocalist of Manfred Mann a la "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," "Sha La La," etc. To me, the best vocalist on the British Invasion scene at the time. To hear this CD in your mind's ear, take away the Manfred Mann keyboard dominated sound and replace it with the horns and orchestras that were usually associated with the Hollies and other more pop oriented acts of the time. But, at this point, Paul's unique voice was still foremost; for some reason, his vocals seemed less recognizable in later solo work, and his work with the Blues Band. Just as with Manfred Mann, he sang some fine original tunes (such as "High Time" a major UK hit if generally unknown in the USA) and very well-chosen covers. You need this, try it!!
Ce CD comprend l’album « My way », un EP de 4 titres et 5 bonus. L’album débute par deux bonnes interprétations de « My way » initialement interprété par Marvin Gaye et celle du hit de Peter & Gordon (#16 UK) « Lady Godiva ». Suit deux compositions de Paul Jones, une moyenne « It’s coming closer » et une bonne, un peu jazzy, « I can’t hold on much longer » qui fait un peu penser à Georgie Fame. « Baby tomorrow » s’inscrit dans la continuité de Manfred Mann et « You’ve got too much going for your girl » fait penser à Long John Baldry.
some of the tracks on this c.d. are absolutely great as I remember them from the late 60's/70's but the others are new and not really my choice. Likeable ones are the majority though.
This is a really great album with some wonderful songs. Paul's voice is excellent and having seen him play recently with The Manfreds it's still as good!
