Missy's Dandy Lion

Email share

Hello! My name is Missy. I’m an artist and blogger here at PBS KIDS Utah. Last month I told you how much I love dandelions. I found a super fun dandelion craft while surfing the internet. I’m going to teach you how to make a “Dandy Lion.”

  1. Use your pencil to draw a big circle on your piece of cardboard.
  2. Use your scissors to cut out the circle. Save the scraps for a paint palette.
  3. Use your pencil and draw a circle for a lion head. Add ears, eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. Now mark a bunch of dots in the space around the lion's head, about an inch and a half between dots.
  5. Have a parent help you use the awl to punch holes through the cardboard where all the dots are. Make sure they are big enough holes for a dandelion stem to go through.
  6. Now paint your lion face and let it dry completely.
  7. Define the features with a black marker.
  8. Now head outside and search for dandelions. Pick them and put one in each of the holes. The dandelions will create the lion’s mane.

Wrap Up

You have created quite a “Dandy Lion,” haven’t you!? You can use this as a fun Summertime decoration. But remember, dandelions don’t last long once picked. So you might need to create a new mane tomorrow. Be creative and have fun!
