Child Care Licensing

Responsibilities

The Child Care Licensing (CCL) staff evaluates, investigates, and educates childcare facilities and providers in Licensed Day Care Homes, Group Licensed Day Care Homes, Childcare Centers, Preschools, and School Age Programs in Wichita, and throughout Sedgwick County. This program's responsibility is to ensure the local City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Ordinances, Kansas State Laws, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) regulations are met so that all children are safe and healthy in out-of-home child care.

CCL staff also investigates complaints of unregulated childcare or complaints of unsafe or non-compliant conditions in regulated facilities. This program does not regulate Foster Care or other programs that operate 24 hours a day.

Office Location

Our office is located on the 7th floor at City Hall. If you need assistance or plan on coming to our office for any reason, please call first.  To visit City Hall you may park in the small parking lot at a meter on the south side or you can utilize the public parking lot for a small fee. Face masks are recommended but not required while in the building.  You will have to go through a security check.  There is an information desk on the first floor where you will check in.  A CCL staff member will come down to assist you.   As always, if you need information or assistance, please feel free to call or email your licensing specialist.  If we are unable to take your call, leave a message and we will get back with you as soon as possible.

Childcare Orientation Classes

Schedule

Home Day Care Orientation Schedule

  • 1st Tuesday of each month, 1 pm to 3 pm
  • 3rd Friday of each month, 10 am to 12 pm     
  • En Espanol - 1st Friday of each month (upon request), 9 am to 11 am

Childcare Center Orientation Schedule

  • 2nd Monday of each month, 9 to 11 am

School Age Program Orientation

  • 1st Tuesday of each month (upon request), 9 to 11 am

Registration

Preregistration and payment must be completed prior to noon the day before the scheduled class.

No registrations, payments, or cancellations will be accepted the day of the scheduled class.

Substitutions must be arranged with our office by noon the day before the scheduled class.

Holidays

There is no class if the date falls on a holiday.

Payment

Money orders, checks or credit card payments can be accepted.

No refunds are given.

What You Need to Bring

Your photo ID is required at sign-in. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Class begins promptly at the scheduled time.

Bring a pen, paper, and jacket/sweater (room temperature varies).

Children are not allowed.
