Dogpool will be making a big splash in the MCU with an appearance in the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Actor Ryan Reynolds has addressed the dog's inclusion and why he wanted to cast a certain pooch to play the canine.

Per Empire, Dogpool is played by Peggy, a lovable dog who won the title of "Britain's Ugliest Dog." Reynolds said that he lobbied for Peggy's casting as Dogpool because of her unique look, which the actor felt represented how an animal version of Wade Wilson would appear. While the focus of the film is primarily on the team-up between Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Dogpool is a key part of the movie, as what began as an idea for a simple appearance wound up growing from there.

Hugh Jackman's Return As Wolverine Changed Deadpool 3

Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy speaks about how Hugh Jackman's Wolverine return changed the trajectory of the upcoming movie.

"It’s love at first sight. He loves Dogpool,” Reynolds said of Deadpool and Dogpool's relationship. "Her real name is Peggy, and she won the award for Britain’s Ugliest Dog. The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson. It was, just like many things during the writing process, a tiny little afterthought, and it grew. It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and Dogpool became a staple.”

"The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson."

Teasing how Dogpool will be no less mischievous than other Deadpool variants, Reynolds added, "Dogpool’s a Pool, so probably has some moral flexibility about where she wees and poops."

An Instagram account has even been created for Dogpool to help promote the film. As Dogpool, Peggy announced her filming wrap in January while teasing the movie. Dogpool's sense of humor was also teased with a message that was left with the filming wrap post.

"That’s a wrap on my first movie! We worked our pants off but it was worth it," the post stated. "Everyone on set was the utmost professional, especially Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. And a super-hero big bow-wow-WOW to the entire crew. No matter the challenge, you rose to the task and made it look easy. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe one person who was a little extra to deal with. But don’t worry, I’ve forgiven him. I even left him a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer."

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in movie theaters on July 26, 2024.
