Former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa is making a return to our TV screens, as part of the line-up for this year's series of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

Nearly two years on from her dramatic departure as Albert Square's Lauren Branning, Jacqueline has flown out to Australia to compete on ITV's jungle-based reality show.

While EastEnders fans will need no introduction to Jacqueline, those who don't follow the soap world may be wondering who she is. Here are some quick facts to bring you up to speed.

Jacqueline Jossa EastEnders role – who did she play?

Jacqueline joined the EastEnders cast in 2010, taking over from Madeline Duggan in the already-established role of Lauren Branning. In 2012, she won the Best Newcomer prize at the National Television Awards after a successful start in the show. She was also named Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards in 2013.

During Jacqueline's time in the role, Lauren's storylines included a battle with alcoholism, dealing with her parents' messy marriage troubles, and her own relationships with the likes of Joey Branning, Peter Beale and Steven Beale.

In September 2017, it was announced that Jacqueline was being written out of EastEnders alongside her on-screen sister Lorna Fitzgerald (Abi Branning).

The Branning sisters went on to take centre stage in a highly memorable Christmas Day stunt, which saw them fall from the roof of the Queen Vic pub. Lauren survived the accident, but Abi later passed away in hospital.

Lauren's final scenes aired in February 2018, when she left for a fresh start in New Zealand and reunited with Peter off-screen. With some family members remaining in the show, the door remains open for her to return.

In 2019, Jacqueline launched her own acting academy in Bexleyheath. The Jac Jossa Academy offers acting, singing, drama and dance classes, as well as self-confidence workshops for young performers.

All teachers at the academy have been specifically chosen by Jacqueline, with the official website promising specific teaching techniques to suit the needs of each individual child.

Jacqueline started dating former The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osborne in 2013 – and their relationship has regularly been in the headlines ever since. The couple tied the knot in June 2017 after four years together.

Jacqueline and Dan have two children together – 4-year-old Ella and 1-year-old Mia. Jacqueline is also stepmum to Dan's son Teddy, from a previous relationship.

The pair briefly split in early 2018 while Jacqueline was pregnant with Mia, but reunited following Dan's stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Speaking afterwards in a YouTube video, Jacqueline commented: "Me and Daniel have been getting on more than ever.

"Obviously we still have issues to go through but actually it's in a better way because now we're talking and getting on so well [that] it's nice to speak about our issues – it makes us get on better.

"I just really feel like we're on a really good wavelength right now, so all is well."

In March this year, Dan also spoke out to strongly deny tabloid claims that he'd kissed Love Island star Alexandra Cane behind Jacqueline's back, branding the allegations "rubbish".

Hinting at the public perception of the rumours in her first official I'm A Celeb interview, Jacqueline commented: "I think people think I'm a pushover or a doormat. I also think some people pity me. I want to show I am fine, I am up for a laugh and that I will go for it and try my best."

Jacqueline was born in Bexley on October 29, 1992, making her 27 years old. She trained at the D&B Theatre School in Bromley and the Royal Academy of Music.

Jacqueline is among the younger crowd in this year's I'm A Celebrity line-up, but has predicted that she'll fill the role of providing a shoulder to cry on when things get emotional around camp.

Jacqueline is also the cousin of Megan Jossa, who played Courtney Mitchell in EastEnders in 2006.

Jacqueline has admitted that one of her biggest I'm A Celebrity challenges will be showing the real her for the first time, rather than a fictional character.

In her first interview about the journey ahead, she said: "It's going to be so different going in as me and that's definitely going to be the hardest part. I have never done a show where I have been myself.

"And I am also scared of everything – especially spiders. They are the worst, there will be tears."

On the Bushtucker Trials which will inevitably be ahead, she continued: "My old colleagues on EastEnders are going to be so shocked. I don't think they can imagine me in there. I don't like creatures. It is not my thing.

"I have also never done rock climbing, jumped out of a plane or camped in my life. I am not that kind of girl.

"But having said all that, I am really excited. This is something completely different and it is going to be a totally new experience.

"I am also looking forward to not being on my phone and Instagram all the time. It will be a detox for me."

Jacqueline also insisted that she isn't thinking about how far she'll make it into the show's run.

She explained: "Obviously I would love to win, but you don't go into it wanting to. This is one of those shows where you come out feeling proud of what you have done.

"If doing this programme opens doors for me then that would be exciting. There are loads of things I would love to do, both acting and presenting."
