Susan Rex Obituary

Susan Elizabeth Rex, 49, of West Chester, PA, passed away on August 11, 2022, with her dedicated partner, Britt Doerr, by her side after a heroic 2 year battle with cancer. Susan was raised in Center Valley, PA. She later moved to Dubuque, Iowa, with her mother and stepfather, where she graduated from Hempstead High School in 1990. Susan then returned to the East Coast, where she found her professional calling at Firstrust Bank as a Corporate Trainer, teaching and embodying the history and culture of the company to new employees. Susan was well known for her passionate and vibrant personality that helped form deep and lasting connections with friends and colleagues from the moment she met them throughout her 23 year tenure. Outside the office, Susan was an avid genealogist and enjoyed researching her own family as well as those of her friends. She also enjoyed reading, music, hiking, the outdoors, travel, gardening, and animals. Susan was a loving and caring soul, a shining star. Although her loss at such an early age will leave a hole in the hearts of those who knew her, Susan’s unspeakable kindness, love, quick wit, and adventurous spirit remain. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Robert Rex. She is survived by her partner, D. Britton Doerr; sisters, Dawn Burdette and Terri Bortz; mother and stepfather, Victoria and Larry Smock; uncle, Theodore Mumbaurer; nephew, Gregory McHargue; niece, Katherine Bortz; and great niece, Ella McHargue.
