Amazon.com: Groove Tube : Chase, Belzer, Sarashon: Movies & TV
This collection of satirical sketches about television was released in 1974, the heyday of obvious pop-culture humor along the lines Cheech and Chong. With Saturday Night Live still a few years away, Chevy Chase made an appearance here, and one can see the acute sensibility that would redefine television comedy in its early form. Some of the gags work well but most are pretty dispensable; some are a bit crude. On the plus side, it's nice to see Richard Belzer (from TV's Homicide) in his sharp-tongued, formative stage. While not brilliant, the film did serve as one influence on the rise of ironic humor in the '70s. --Tom Keogh

And I DO remember it. I enjoyed this movie when it came out year and years ago. I haven’t let any of my friends watch it yet. I hope the younger ones will enjoy it.
The Groove Tube was a precursor to many trends in adult entertainment, including "Saturday Night Live." It's a set of short stories, "commercials," and blackouts, featuring people like Richard Belzer and Chevy Chase. Aimed squarely at a mid-1970s young adult/college crowd, the humor is topical, risque, sometimes illicit.
The DVD is a very good transfer-better than the print I saw in the theater. There aren't a lot of special features, but instead there are chapter-by-chapter bookmarks for each skit. The overall quality is excellent. On a fairly large TV, the experience is very "theater-like."
Overall, I would recommend The Groove Tube to anyone who had enjoyed it when it was released, and anyone younger who saw more comedy than the overt jokes on Saturday Night Live or Second City. This is a good catch.
I saw this when it first came out, (yes they did have colour then thank you!), and while parts of the film don't work, the parts that do are virtual classics. Watch the children's TV sketch to get the idea, or the lecture by the thing looking remarkably like a....oh my god yes it is! The cinema scene does me in. So funny. It's a bit like Monty python of the soft core film world. It was normal film fare in the late 70's, it featured with another film, can't remember which, but this one stayed in my mind. So very pleased to get it again and yes the scene that work for me are just as funny.
Chill out, give it a try and laugh. Maybe not very PC so much but the world seemed a a lot happier when PC didn't really exists in the 70's. Then people drove planes to get to a to b, and you could go in the cockpit while it was flying, and travel to so many countries and be welcomed. A relic of it's age, but worth watching.
