Lambayeque - Peru, cradle of civilization in South America

As the 'Golden Afro-Peruvian Woman' said: "Hooray for the department of Lambayeque, with its capital Chiclayo, Monsefú, and Reque." The Afro-Peruvian waltz singer, Lucha Reyes, was born in Lima. However, every time she sang that beloved song, she did it with the pure feeling of being part of this northern region. It is a fact: who visits Lambayeque is never the same again. Because of the warmth of its people, its ancient history, or its highly regarded cuisine that captivates everyone who tastes it, you will want this region to adopt you as another son or daughter of its vast and noble population.

Located on the northern coast of Peru, Lambayeque is one of the country's fastest-growing tourist regions. Its easy accessibility (1 hour and 15 minutes by air from Lima) makes it a sought-after destination for both Peruvian and foreign tourists. Its sunny climate is one of the region's delights, attracting beach lovers who choose Lambayeque for their vacations.

No wonder: they have unique and beautiful beaches that rank alongside the best coasts on the planet. The most well-known and outstanding beaches are Pimentel, where you can see caballitos de totora, rafts that the Lambayeque ancestors used for fishing; and Santa Rosa small cove, distinguished by its enormous and colorful dry dock, filled with multicolored boats.

The Lord of Sipán awaits you

Are you a lover of ancient history? In Lambayeque, there is enough material to quench that thirst for knowledge. One of the main attractions is the Huaca Rajada Archaeological Complex, where the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was discovered in 1987. He was a former ruler of the Moche culture and considered one of the most important figures of ancient Peru.

This monumental discovery stunned the entire world because the Lord’s tomb was intact. Nowadays, there is a site museum in the place where it was lied. It exhibits some other pieces found in its surroundings, such as utensils, offerings, and ceramics, among others. However, the funerary objects of the Lord of Sipán are displayed in the Royal Tombs of Sipán National Museum, which was inaugurated in 2002. It is also home to the Lord’s most intimate possessions unearthed by Peruvian archaeologists Walter Alva and Luis Chero Zurita. The Bruning Museum, where gold, silver, and bronze pieces dating back over 4000 years are exhibited, is also a good option for an educational tour.

After this cultural visit, it is time to pamper your stomach and palate. In Lambayeque, that is very easy: its cuisine is acclaimed by everyone who tastes it, because it keeps ancient secrets that give its dishes a distinct flavor. Do not leave this land without trying a delicious Arroz con Pato (Rice with Duck), Seco de Cabrito (Goat Stew), Espesado Lambayecano (Lambayeque-style Thick Stew), or a Chinguirito, which flirts with delicious seafood.
