Student Message

I'm thrilled to be back at PolyU attending the MScISTL program after eight years at sea. As a former undergraduate student, LMS, PolyU feels like home to me.

Since I finished my last degree, the shipping industry has undergone significant changes, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to update my knowledge. The program covers a diverse range of subjects, from legal aspects to the aviation industry, warehousing, procurement and more. It's fascinating to explore other professions that I wouldn’t otherwise have considered.

The faculty are knowledgeable and passionate, bringing solid, practical industry experience to the classroom. I love my lively discussions and interactions with them. My fellow classmates come from various professions and levels in their organizations. Working on group projects has been enlightening, as we analyse problems from different perspectives. As someone who’s operationally minded, I’ve found it eye-opening to learn from my more commercially focused peers.

Overall, I’m thoroughly enjoying my second sojourn at LMS, and I highly recommend the MScISTL program to anyone interested in international shipping and transport logistics.

CHAN Siu Keung

The MSc International Shipping and Transport Logistics programme provided me with a great opportunity to broaden my network and strengthen my knowledge of marine insurance.

As I was working in a shipowning company as a claims officer, I wanted to know more about vessel operations, marine insurance and maritime law. The programme provided me with a sturdy base for handling claims and yielded valuable insights into the latest developments in the shipping industry. It offered a wide variety of subjects to choose from and explore, such as aviation, shipping and supply chain management. This strengthened my understanding of the practical world of shipping and logistics.

As Polytechnic University recruits students from around the world, group projects benefitted from a wide range of views and comments. My presentation skills and English language skills were pushed to new heights. The experience made me more versatile and more competitive in the job market.

If you are interested in joining the maritime industry, the MSc International Shipping and Transport Logistics programme is a good choice: it will enable you to become a maritime professional with the necessary knowledge and industry network.
