UCI Paul Merage School Of Business

The Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA) program is all about flexibility to accommodate your busy schedule. You can start the FEMBA program in either Fall (on-campus and Hybrid), or Spring (on-campus.)

Our rigorous and relevant curriculum is focused on refining your skills as an agile leader, anticipating disruption and capitalizing on marketplace opportunities. Woven throughout the program are four drivers of business growth -- strategic innovation, information technology, analytic decision-making, and collaborative execution -- taught through the latest research insights, real world projects and industry case studies. Each of these themes is integrated into the core to help you build a solid foundation on which to effectively compete in today's digitally driven world.

Another hallmark of the FEMBA program is teamwork. You attend all of the core classes with the students in your individual cohort. This model provides you with a collaborative and intense teamwork-driven environment.

Accelerated Spring Class

Start this March in the accelerated Spring 2018 class. Immediately start exploring career paths through electives and our centers of excellence. You will gain access to our full-service Career Center, executive mentoring and networking opportunities. By joining the Spring class, you will graduate in 24 months, earlier than if you start the program in Fall 2018. Spring 2018 students will lock in the Fall 2017 tuition rate, which does not increase once you start the FEMBA program.

Program Stucture

The FEMBA program consists of 19 courses, including nine core courses, seven electives, and three offsite experiential residentials, including one international residential trip. Most students complete the program from 24 to 33 months, depending on their individual academic and career goals.

Residentials

We offer three exceptional off-site learning residentials: one before classes begin; one during your second-year in an international location; and one final capstone course. This sequence of requirements, particularly with an overseas component, is a unique feature of the Merage School.

Opening Residential: Responding to Dynamic Times: Thinking Strategically in Organizations
This 4-day experience, held in a local business hotel, lays the groundwork for the collaborative FEMBA learning environment. During this residential you will:

  • Work intensively with your cohort and small-study team, getting to know your new classmates well
  • Engage in case analysis, class discussion, presentations, group projects, and experiential learning
  • Learn about organizational design, culture and power; group processes; competitive analysis; corporate strategy; and business ethics

International Residential: Global Business II
A program highlight, this one-week residential is a rare, first-hand opportunity to learn about the socio-economic, cultural and political issues faced by key business players outside the US. Recent trips have been to major cities in Asia, South America and Europe focusing on how each country became a dominant political and economic force. In this course you will:

  • Gain insight into issues faced by US companies overseas, investment climate, banking and finance, supply chain management, and transitions in emerging economies
  • Meet with key officials such as senior executives in US and foreign-based companies
  • Tour companies in a variety of industries
  • Attend social events, enjoy fine dining, artistic performances or other cultural activities

Closing Residential: Executive Leadership
This 4-day capstone course on Executive Leadership is held at a mountain retreat conference center. You and your classmates reflect on the knowledge and expertise you gained at the Merage School in a structured setting, and discuss how you will successfully leverage these competencies as a manager and leader. At this residential you will:

  • Identify your leadership skills and learn tools to enhance them
  • Create an actionable long-term career plan

Students that do not participate in the Executive Leadership Residential will need to take 6-8 units of additional elective coursework.

Note: Most program costs, speakers, events, and hotels are included in your tuition. With the exception of transportation, we make the arrangements for your accommodations for all three residential.

Hybrid FEMBA

The Hybrid delivery option offers further flexibility by incorporating state-of-the-art online learning combined with on-campus classes and experiences, allowing you to complete the program at your own pace. This option allows you to take more electives during the first year, which is ideal for career enhancers, changers and entrepreneurs. Tailor your MBA experience and specialize in one or more areas to further help you to achieve your career goals.

Specializing Your MBA

During your final four quarters in the FEMBA Program, you will have the opportunity to tailor your MBA to your interests and career goals through a variety of electives spread across different academic areas. Approximately 45-50 electives are offered each academic year. You may also choose to enhance your MBA by completing one of our specializations.

Merage Consulting Projects Course

The Merage Consulting Projects course offers you the opportunity to gain consulting experience with an established company. Under the guidance of a dedicated faculty expert and with coaching by successful business executives, students engage in a 10-week project for course credit.

Translate Curriculum Into Real-Life Application
Put into practice the business skills and tools you learn by addressing a legitimate business problem faced by a well-known area company. Class lectures augment your project with analyses of relevant managerial issues. Some of the tangible benefits you receive from the course are:

  • Sharpen your conceptual, analytical and technical knowledge and skill sets
  • Gain valuable insight in a new industry and/or functional area
  • Gain skills in project management, management consulting, and solution-oriented management
  • Enhance your resume with professional experience that may be a stepping stone in your career
  • Focus on one or more strategic topics that cut across functional areas
  • Deliver an on-site presentation and written report with your team to senior management
