Shelly Burch is back on the east coast, after a self-imposed 20 year exile in Orlando, and Seattle. She justemperformed her new one-woman-entertainment at New York's newest bistro, 54 Below, returning to the cabaret scene in a blaze of glory. Shelly catapulted to fame in the original company of Tommy Tune's production of the celebrated musical Nine, where she was hailed as "a Modigliani goddess with a strong voice and an almost unearthly presence" by Frank Rich, the then theatre critic of the New York Times.(She received a Drama Desk nomination.) She was also seen on Broadway in Stop The World and in Annie. During her Nine engagement she was tapped by ABC-TV to play the role of the devilish Delila on One Life To Live, and she stayed on TV for 8 seasons in that part. She also starred as Julie in Show Boat, which was filmed for greatest performances on PBS, and sang the National Anth over 30 times at national political and professional sporting events. Subsequently moving south and then west, she continued her acting and singing career in Man of La Mancha, and A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline, as well as portraying leading roles in 42nd Street, Later Life, Shadowlands, Love is Love, the new version of Robin Hood, Annie Warbucks, and Rodgers...(a tribute to the life and work of Richard Rodgers), which she reprised in New York, and again last month at the world famous elin Theatre. Many of those productions were written and directed by her husband, Martin Charnin, who is currently preparing a new one-woman-evening for her, which will debut in 2014.
